The Hammers had picked up only one win in their opening six matches of the season across all competitions, leaving them second from bottom of the Premier League table with the worst defensive record.

Ahead of Monday’s league clash with Everton in Liverpool, West Ham decided to take action.

In a statement published on their official website, the Hammers said: “West Ham United can confirm that Head Coach Graham Potter has left the Club.

“Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025/26 season have not matched expectations, and the Board of Directors believe that a change is necessary in order to help improve the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible.

“The Club can confirm that Assistant Coach Bruno Saltor, First Team Coaches Billy Reid and Narcis Pelach, Lead Goalkeeper Coach Casper Ankergren, and Goalkeeper Coach Linus Kandolin have also left with immediate effect.

“The Board would like to thank Graham and his coaching staff for their hard work during their time with the Hammers and wish them every success for the future.

“The process of appointing a replacement is underway. The Club will be making no further comment at this time.”

Potter had just 25 matches in charge of West Ham and posted only six wins.

Nuno Espirito Santo strong favourite for West Ham job

Nuno Espirito Santo has emerged as a clear favourite with the bookmakers to take command of West Ham on a permanent basis.

The Portuguese had been sacked by Nottingham Forest in the early weeks of the season but is in line for a quick return to the Premier League thanks to Potter’s departure.

Other names thought to be seriously in the frame are Slaven Bilic and Gary O’Neil.

Nuno is widely expected to replace Potter, and with West Ham taking such decisive action, this is a deal that could be wrapped up quickly.
