Fabrizio Romano has announced that Manchester City have agreed a new long-term contract with a one of their brightest young talents.

Savinho was heavily involved in the summer transfer market but has sealed a new contract at the Etihad Stadium that ends any prospect of leaving for Tottenham Hotspur.

The Brazil international had been linked with a potential move to Spurs, with Real Madrid ace Rodrygo having been lined up by City manager Pep Guardiola as his replacement.

Romano says that is totally off the cards now, with Savinho having committed himself to the Manchester side for the next six years.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the transfer expert said: “After a crazy transfer window, Savinho is set to sign a new deal with Manchester City. The deal is fully agreed. He’ll stay at City with a new contract. City had several conversations with Tottenham in the summer – they had a bid of €50-55m rejected and then told Manchester City they were prepared to go beyond €70m – but the answer was always: ‘No, we don’t want to sell the player.’

“City closed the doors to the exit of Savinho, despite the opportunity to get important money for a player who was signed for a completely different fee.

“The new contract is ready and will be signed. It’s a new six-year contract and the end of the story with Tottenham.”

Guardiola heaps praise on Savinho

Savinho arrived at Manchester City from sister club Troyes in the summer of 2024 for a fee of €25 million.

This was something of a controversial deal at the time, not only because Savinho had not played for the French side, who were relegated from Ligue 1 while he was loaned out, but also because it was substantially below his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of around €35m.

Savinho’s worth has since doubled to €70m since moving to City, where he generated an eye-catching eight Premier League assists in his debut campaign.

Speaking after the 21-year-old helped City defeat Huddersfield in the Carabao Cup in midweek, Guardiola praised the youngster’s creativity but stressed that his decision-making must improve.

“His numbers for goals and assists last season – Savinho created a lot. In the final third, he needs to be active in the right moment,” the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss said. “The moment he does that, he’s young, he will be a top-class player.

“He will make this step - it will come. Savinho will be a top player for Man City.”

This ability to create for others has led him to be earmarked by Guardiola as an important figure for the future, and news of his new contract will delight the manager.
