Celtic offered PERFECT opportunity to sign bargain Man Utd star
Celtic have been offered the chance to reignite their interest in Tyrell Malacia as Manchester United have given the full-back a bargain price tag.
Erik ten Hag's first signing at Old Trafford, the Dutchman failed to have the desired impact at Man Utd, much like Ten Hag himself. After more than a year out injured, Malacia was sent out on loan for the second half of last season and is now expected to leave permanently.
The 25-year-old, once a fully-fledged Netherlands international, only made 12 appearances for PSV during his loan stint, and the Dutch giants unsurprisingly decided against signing him permanently.
Prior to his move back to the Netherlands, Celtic were interested in Malacia. The Hoops had managed to agree a deal with Arsenal full-back Kieran Tierney to return to the club, but the Gunners were unwilling to let him leave in January, so Celtic explored different short-term options.
Malacia ultimately opted to return to the Eredivisie, but Celtic could now reignite their interest as they remain in the market for a left-back. Tierney has arrived, but at the expense of Greg Taylor, who has left the Bhoys for Greek side PAOK.
Malacia available for cut price
According to the Manchester Evening News, Malacia is available at a cut price as the Red Devils accept that they won't be 'inundated with offers' for the full-back this summer.
It is claimed that the Dutchman could be had for just €3.7 million as that is the fee required for Man Utd to avoid making a loss on him with regards to Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
Intriguingly, this is in a similar ballpark to the figure Celtic have been quoted by Famalicao for left-back target Justin de Haas. Given Malacia's previous exploits, the Glasgow giants would perhaps be wise to take a punt on him over De Haas.
If Malacia can attain the levels he hit prior to his long-term injury, a €3.7m outlay will be viewed as a real bargain. Of course, this could also be a risk as the Dutchman would have to compete with Tierney for minutes and would not be a guaranteed starter at first.
