The summer transfer window in the Premier League and across Europe's major leagues closed on August 30, and the winter window will not reopen until the new year in January.

This past summer did not see the levels of spending from the Premier League as it did during previous years but there were still some huge transfers across the board.

Chelsea spent the most money (€261 million) on transfers of any club in world football during the 2024 summer transfer window. They signed Tosin Adarabioyo (Fulham), Omari Kellyman (Aston Villa), Marc Guiu (Barcelona), Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (Leicester), Renato Veiga (Basel), Filip Jorgensen (Villarreal), Caleb Wiley (Atlanta), Aaron Anselmino (Boca Juniors), Pedro Neto (Wolves) and Joao Felix (Atletico Madrid), Estevao (Palmeiras) and Mike Penders (Genk).

Man Utd also spent heavily. They signed Manuel Ugarte from PSG for €50m + €10m in add-ons, Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for €42.5m, Lille's Leny Yoro for an initial €62m and Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui for a combined €60m.

Arsenal made David Raya's loan from Brentford permanent and signed Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna for €45m and Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad for €32m.

Liverpool signed Federico Chiesa from Juventus for a fee of €12m and Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia for €30m, although the Georgian goalkeeper won't arrive until next year.

Elsewhere, we saw Brighton (€231.2m), Aston Villa (€176.2m) and Tottenham (€148m) also splash the cash.

Amorim and Rashford haven't spoke in months

There has been no contact between Marcus Rashford and Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim in months.

Midway through last season, Rashford was dropped from the United squad allegedly due to his performances in training and he subsequently joined Aston Villa on loan for six months.

Villa won't sign him permanently so he will return to United pre-season on Monday, with Barcelona and Bayern Munich monitoring his situation. (Chris Wheeler)

Barcelona to move on from Williams

Despite agreeing terms with Barcelona, Nico Williams has agreed to a lucrative contract extension with Athletic Club until 2030.

The Blaugrana will move on and press ahead with interest in Liverpool's Luis Diaz, according to Fabrizio Romano.

"Barcelona are planning new approach for Luis Diaz in the next days/weeks after Nico deal off," he said via X.

"Liverpool already closed doors to both Barca and FC Bayern in the recent weeks; it's not an easy one."

Arsenal could be set for huge windfall

Arsenal could be set for a huge transfer windfall as Gabriel Martinelli is a target for Al-Nassr.

It is no secret that Mikel Arteta wants to add a left winger to his ranks this summer, with Rodrygo and Nico Williams the primary targets. Should a new winger be signed, Martinelli will drop down the pecking order and Al-Nassr want to take advantage of that by proposing a switch to the Saudi Pro League.

The Brazilian has an Estimated Transfer Value of €63.7 million. (GiveMeSport)

Asensio suitors

Marco Asensio won't be short of options this summer.

The Spaniard spent last season on loan at Aston Villa from Paris Saint-Germain and will likely leave the Champions League winners on a permanent basis in this transfer window.

Fenerbahce have already bid €15 million, but Asensio is waiting to see if interest from Milan and Villarreal develops. (L'Equipe)

Newcastle on verge of Elanga signing

Newcastle have made an improved bid of £55 million (€63 million) for Anthony Elanga.

So far, Nottingham Forest have knocked back all approaches for their winger, but that new bid is probably going to be accepted.

Eddie Howe is keen to add a new winger to his ranks this summer. (Mail)
