CONFIRMED: Man Utd schedule Ruben Amorim talks as sack decision looms
Manchester United have reportedly scheduled talks with Ruben Amorim amid significant rumours that he could be sacked following their embarrassing defeat to Grimsby Town on Wednesday evening.
The Red Devils suffered a humiliating penalty shootout loss to the League Two outfit in the Carabao Cup second-round, after going 2-0 down in normal time, and Amorim has been heavily linked with a departure in the aftermath of the game.
The 40-year-old currently boasts a win percentage of just 35.6% since his arrival at Old Trafford in late 2024 and the bookies rank him as the second-most likely Premier League manager to be sacked next, behind only West Ham United’s Graham Potter.
The defeat to Grimsby has intensified rumours of Amorim losing his job and The Telegraph report that talks have been scheduled regarding his future at the club.
These discussions will reportedly take place during the upcoming international break as Amorim views the pause in action as the ideal opportunity to “assess whether his 10-month tenure is moving United in the right direction.”
What has Ruben Amorim said?
Speaking after Man Utd’s dismal defeat to Grimsby in midweek, Amorim appeared a broken man during an interview with ITV Sport.
“When everything is so important in our club, everything that happened, it’s a problem in our club. We should do so much better, so I just have to say sorry to our fans,” he said.
“I felt my players spoke really loud today about what they want.
I would like to say very smart things and very important things. I have nothing to say. Nothing to say and that is the biggest problem also.
“To see the same mistakes and nothing to say in this moment. I’m really sorry for our fans. It’s too much sometimes.”
He added: “You cannot change everything in one summer. But you need to win games, you need to not show this kind of performance. I think this is a little bit the limit, so I think something has to change.”
