Football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has delivered the latest news from the 2025 summer window, with updates on Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Fermin Lopez.

Kobbie Mainoo latest

Kobbie Mainoo has been heavily linked with a Manchester United exit in recent days and Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the latest state of play in his most recent YouTube video.

“It's completely crazy what's been going on in the last 24 hours. After playing zero minutes in the draw against Fulham, Kobbie Mainoo went to Man Utd’s offices with his agent and said directly, ‘I want to leave on loan.’

“No permanent deal. Mainoo doesn't want to leave Man Utd on a permanent transfer, he doesn't want to leave the project and he still loves the club.

"But, it's a World Cup season and he wants to play. He needs to play. He wants to develop. There’s no Champions League football, no Europa League football, no Europa Conference League football, no EFL Cup for Man Utd, so Mainoo only has one competition plus the FA Cup starting in the second-half of the season.

“So, for Mainoo leaving Man Utd is now a priority and he has told the club about his intention to go on loan.

“The answer he received right after was very clear: ‘We don't want you to go loan or permanently, we want to keep you at the club.’ Man Utd told Mainoo and his agent that they want the player to stay.

“Mainoo wants to go, but United want him to stay. They need to find a solution. Over 15 clubs have called for a loan deal for Mainoo, including Napoli, but let's see what's going to happen.”

Xavi Simons close to joining Tottenham

Romano has also confirmed the latest regarding Xavi Simons. The transfer expert posted on X: “EXCLUSIVE: Tottenham agree €60m fee with RB Leipzig for Xavi Simons!

“Official bid accepted, green light after Tottenham sent formal bid following player’s encouragement.

“Spurs want deal done today also on player side + medical in the next hours. Here we go, expected soon.”

Chelsea had reached an agreement on personal terms with the Dutchman, however they were unable to finalise a fee with Leipzig and Simons is now on the verge of joining Tottenham.

Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea is a done deal

Although Chelsea are set to miss out on Simons, they have agreed a deal to sign Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho.

“Alejandro Garnacho is done. Everything is completed; there is an agreement club-to-club and with the player.

“The transfer fee is a £40m fixed fee with a 10% sell-on clause. Garnacho is in London for a medical test and to sign a seven-year contract. Garnacho to Chelsea is a done deal.”

Chelsea close to two huge departures

Chelsea are currently prioritising player sales, which is why their pursuit of Garnacho has been ongoing for weeks, and two huge departures are now close.

“Bayern are pushing a lot to sign Nicolas Jackson on loan,” Romano revealed. “They are pushing like crazy! But, Chelsea are still waiting for other clubs to enter the race, probably from the Premier League.

Romano added: “Christopher Nkunku to Milan is done! Everything is completed. It will be a €37m fee, plus €5m in add-ons, and the player is in Milan for a medical test on Friday morning. He will sign a five-year deal and Chelsea will also have a sell-on clause.

Fermin Lopez to Chelsea?

With a move for Simons now looking unlikely, Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move for Barcelona superstar Fermin Lopez. However, a deal is not advanced, accordion to Romano.

“I respect all the information from Spain and all the information from England, but my information is Chelsea like Fermin Lopez,” the transfer expert said.

“He's a player they have on their list. Chelsea are aware of the situation of Fermin and Barcelona have many midfielders in the same position. But, at the moment, Chelsea have not made a bid to Barca.

“Barca don't see Fermin Lopez leaving, they have not received an official bid and they don't have the feeling that Fermin wants to go.

“Barca have never received communication from Fermin saying, ‘Okay, let me go to Chelsea.’

“So, everything is quiet on Fermin. There is appreciation from Chelsea, but it’s not a concrete negotiation at this stage.

“Many of you have asked me what happens if Chelsea don't sign Simons. I think Chelsea could have more options, it's not only Fermin or Simons. I think eventually if Simons doesn't happen, Chelsea will have more options.”

Piero Hincapie to Arsenal update

Finally, Romano provided a concrete update on Arsenal’s pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.

“It’s maybe gone quiet in the media, but the conversations between Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen are continuing. Arsenal are going strong to get Hincapie.

“Remember Hincapie goes to Arsenal, Jakub Kiwior will leave. Porto are pushing a lot to get the player and AC Milan are calling to understand the situation. They are also calling for Manuel Akani from Manchester City as they are in the market for a defender.

“At the moment, Hincapie to Arsenal is advancing, with personal terms agreed.”
