Arsenal ready to sell Mikel Arteta favourite - on one condition
Arsenal are reportedly willing to sell club captain Martin Odegaard next summer if they are unable to finalise a contract extension agreement.
The Norway international has been an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad since his arrival at the club from Real Madrid in 2021, but he was linked with a surprise exit over the summer and he has just over 18 months remaining on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium.
It’s understood that Arsenal are in advanced contract talks with Odegaard, in addition to Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Ben White, however they are yet to finalise fresh terms with the 27-year-old.
As a result, rumours of a potential exit are beginning to emerge and Sky Sports Germany report that Odegaard is open to joining Bayern Munich in the future, having been in ongoing contact with the Bavarian’s hierarchy in recent years.
Arsenal are working on a new contract with Odegaard’s camp, but the Gunners will reportedly consider a sale next summer if fresh terms aren’t finalised by then.
Bayern remain one of Odegaard’s most likely destinations if Arsenal decide to agree a transfer, however Vincent Kompany’s side aren’t currently working on a deal and it’s claimed that he is not yet on their list of possible targets for 2027.
Arsenal unlikely to sell Martin Odegaard
Arteta handed Odegaard the Arsenal captaincy in 2022 and the Norwegian has been a guaranteed starter throughout his time in north London, despite significant competition for places.
Eberechi Eze, Mikel Merino and Kai Havertz are all options at Arteta’s disposal, but he continues to place his trust in Odegaard, which is a key reason why a sale in 2027 would come as a massive shock.
The Norway star has started all eight of Arsenal’s Premier League matches so far this season, scoring twice, and while there have been rumours of a possible exit for the past 12 months, it appears unlikely that a sale will be finalised next year.
Instead, Arsenal are expected to agree fresh contract terms with Odegaard, with talks set to continue over the coming weeks.
