A staggering €4.5 billion exchanged hands in the summer 2022 transfer window. But not everyone costs clubs a transfer fee…

In the Premier League, Chelsea lost both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, who signed for Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively, while Alexandre Lacazette returned to Lyon and Nemanja Matic signed for Roma. Christian Eriksen joined Manchester United in his second free transfer move of 2022, taking Jesse Lingard's place in the squad, with the Englishman joining Nottingham Forest, also on a free transfer.

In France, highly-rated young midfielder Boubacar Kamara joined Aston Villa, whilst in Germany, Niklas Sule left Bayern Munich for Borussia Dortmund and Corentin Tolisso returned to Lyon.

From Spain, Isco signed for Sevilla, Gareth Bale moved to Los Angeles FC and Ousmane Dembele renewed his deal at Barcelona after becoming a free agent.
