The Welshman has been without a club since October of 2025 when he and Mexican side UNAM agreed to the mutual termination of his contract. At that time, he was suffering from personal issues as his god, Halo, had been kidnapped.

In his professional career he played for Cardiff, Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Juventus, Rangers, Nice and UNAM, as well as the Wales national team.

He announced his retirement via a post on social media which read:

"This has not been an easy decision to make. After a lot of consideration, I have decided to retire from football.

"Firstly, I want to start with Wales. It has been my privilege to wear the Welsh shirt and experience so many incredible moments in it. It would not have been possible without the incredible input of all the managers I have played under and all the staff who have helped me in many ways.

"To the Red Wall. You have been there through thick and thin! You have been there through the highs and lows, and you have been an essential and indispensable part of our success. I can't thank you enough. We've been through everything together and it's been an honour to represent you. Diolch."

"Secondly, thank you to all the clubs I've been lucky enough to play for.

"Thank you to all the managers and staff that have helped me be able to live my dream and play at the highest level.

"And a huge thank you to my wife and children and all my family.

"Without you by my side throughout, none of this would nave been possible."

Ramsey's career

Ramsey is widely regarded as one of the best Welsh midfielders of his generation. He came through the academy at Cardiff City before moving to Arsenal as a teenager, where he developed into a key first-team player.

His early career was harshly interrupted by a serious leg break in 2010 following a challenge by Stoke's Ryan Shawcross, but he made a strong comeback and went on to play a central role in Arsenal’s midfield for nearly a decade, winning multiple FA Cups and becoming known for his knack of scoring decisive goals in cup finals.

In 2019 he joined Juventus on a free transfer, adding a Serie A title to his honours before later spells back in the UK and Europe, including time with Rangers and OGC Nice. He also served as a long-time leader for the Wales, earning over 80 caps and representing his country at multiple major tournaments, including helping them reach the semi-finals of Euro 2016.

After returning to Cardiff City in the latter stages of his career and taking on a leadership role there, he has now retired after his stint in Mexico, leaving behind an admirable legacy.

With Arsenal, he won three FA Cups, with Juventus he won one Serie A and the Coppa Italia and with Rangers he won the Scottish Cup.

He was named Player of the Season by the Gunners in 2014 and 2018.
