Arsenal receive honest transfer verdict from €33m star
Arsenal summer signing Cristhian Mosquera has confirmed that Mikel Arteta played a crucial role in his decision to join the Gunners in July.
The 21-year-old arrived at the Emirates Stadium from Valencia for a fairly measly fee of just €15 million and his Estimated Transfer Value has already risen to €32.6m after an impressive start to life in north London.
Mosquera was primarily signed to provide adequate cover for first-choice pairing William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, but he has already racked up 12 appearances across all competitions so far this season and he has been widely praised for his performances in an Arsenal shirt.
Speaking while on international duty with Spain U21s, Mosquera detailed the key role Arteta played in his summer move from Valencia to Arsenal.
Cristhian Mosquera discusses Arsenal transfer
Mosquera told The Guardian: “I always watched the Premier League. In fact, my team was Arsenal. The players, the shirt. I saw them as a bit different: they had something, an aura.
“Before I had decided [whether to join Arsenal], someone in my camp said, ‘The moment you speak to Mikel, there’s no way he won’t convince you.’ And that’s exactly how it happened. When the call finished, my destination couldn’t have been clearer.
“He really lives for football, he was raised on it, experienced everything. You see that when he talks. He loves the detail, sees things other eyes might not. I’m so happy with him. He’s an incredible person and he’s helping me a lot. The staff have made it easy. Arsenal is an incredible club.”
“We’re very, very aware of what we have to do,” Mosquera added. “The goal is our house and no one is allowed in, no one is allowed near our area. Then be dangerous in attack.
“There’s a tactical element of course - the movements - but I think a lot of it is a mental thing, attitude. Our house: do not enter. Inside the dressing room, we believe in ourselves. We know what we’re capable of, we know where we can go.”
Arsenal are currently four points clear at the top of the Premier League table, having won eight, drawn two and lost one of their opening 11 fixtures.
