'Next Harry Kane' responds to Celtic January transfer links after fairytale form
Celtic and West Ham are set to be handed a blow to their January transfer plans as one of their major targets looked to rule out a move despite a meteoric rise to stardom in recent weeks.
New West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to sign a striker in January, with Nicklas Fullkrug likely to be sold, while potential incoming Celtic manager Wilfired Nancy has already been linked with targets to get his tenure up and running.
Both clubs are among the sides said to be interested in signing Troy Parrott after the AZ striker’s fairytale displays for the Republic of Ireland during the international break, which saw him score five times in two games, with the likes of Everton and Leeds also understood to be monitoring the situation.
But even with his increased profile over the past month, Parrott insisted he was committed to AZ and was not considering leaving the club mid-season.
“I feel like I’m progressing really well and I really, really enjoy being here and playing here. Yeah, I’m fully focused on being here,” Parrott said this week.
“As far as I’m concerned, I’m here and I’m focused on the goals and the goals that we have as a team for this season”
Tottenham set to benefit from sale of ‘next Harry Kane’
Parrott netted twice to give Ireland a 2-0 win over Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal before grabbing a hat-trick, including a last-minute winner, against Hungary to give his side a fighting chance of qualifying for next summer’s World Cup.
The 23-year-old has been prolific for AZ since his €4 million transfer from Tottenham in 2024, scoring 21 goals in 36 Eredivisie games as well as four times in the Europa League last season.
Tottenham are not believed to have a buy-back clause on a player that came through their academy and was once dubbed the ‘next Harry Kane’, although they are thought to have a sell-on clause.
AZ would likely demand a fee in excess of Parrott’s €18.3m Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) , with some suggestions that it would take a record sale closer to €25m for them to consider his sale mid-season.
