Liverpool manager Arne Slot has commented on his future after the Reds slumped to an embarrassing 4-1 Champions League defeat at home to PSV.

Defensive calamities saw his side crumble second half after Dominik Szoboszlai drew them level after a quarter of an hour. Previously, Virgil van Dijk’s inexplicable handball in the box had allowed Ivan Perisic to strike from the penalty spot.

With three successive three-goal defeats, Liverpool are on their worst run since December 1953 and Slot finds himself under increasing pressure. The Reds have suffered nine losses in their last 12 and have seen their Premier League defence crumble after six reverses in their last seven games.

After winning that title in May, the Dutchman now faces the very real prospect of being sacked, yet he insists he has backing from the very top of the club.

I feel safe – Arne Slot responds to sack questions

“I have been feeling safe. I have a lot of support from above. It would be nice if I could turn it around and produce a victory. But the noise is part and parcel of being a coach if you are not doing well,” Slot said.

He was asked what reassurances he is being given by sporting director Richard Hughes: “Not in the sense that they tell me every single minute that they support me, they support me, they support me.

“They are helpful to me, to the team. We do have those conversations. They don't call me every second to say they still trust me. When we do have those conversations, I feel the trust. I haven't spoken to them after this game yet; we will see.”

What’s next for Liverpool?

Liverpool face a busy schedule of fixtures that will see them travel to West Ham United on Sunday before tackling Sunderland and Leeds in a Premier League double header the following week. Poor results in these games could see Slot sacked before the Reds’ next Champions League match against Inter Milan on 9 December.
