Rio Ngumoha transfer decision confirmed amid contract talks

Rio Ngumoha reportedly remains happy at Liverpool and is expected to sign a new long-term contract at the club, despite strong transfer interest from Arsenal.

The England international, who could make his competitive senior debut for the Three Lions later this month, has been linked with a possible Anfield exit in recent weeks, with Arsenal believed to be closely monitoring his situation.

Ngumoha enjoyed a breakthrough campaign under Arne Slot last year and he was expected to play a prominent role for Liverpool this term, but his place in the starting XI has been threatened by the summer arrivals of Victor Munoz from Osasuna and Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain.

Cody Gakpo has also started the new season in fantastic form, after his proposed move to Manchester City fell through, and Ngumoha’s long-term future at Anfield has therefore been called into question.

Transfer expert David Ornstein has confirmed that Arsenal are interested in the 18-year-old, amid the Gunners’ pursuit of a new left winger, although Liverpool will be reluctant to strengthen a direct rival and it’s understood that a sale won’t be considered next year.

In fact, both Ngumoha and Liverpool are confident of reaching a contract extension agreement, according to transfer journalist Pete O’Rourke.

He told the Transfer Insider podcast: “Obviously Liverpool are desperate to keep hold of Ngumoha; and the player himself, I understand, is happy at Liverpool as well and is set to get regular starts this season.

“When you get top young players like this, they’re always going to attract interest from other clubs, but Liverpool are confident that his long-term future will be at Anfield… there is optimism on both sides that they can get this deal agreed.”

Rio Ngumoha unlikely to join Arsenal

While Arsenal’s interest in Ngumoha makes complete sense, Liverpool have no intention of allowing him to leave and it appears as though he remains happy at Anfield, despite strong competition for places.

Instead, it’s reported that Ngumoha’s camp are optimistic of agreeing a new deal and the England star is therefore set to stay at Liverpool for the foreseeable future.

Arsenal, meanwhile, will be forced to pursue an alternative left winger target next summer, with the club eager to land a suitable competitor for new signing Christos Tzolis.
