The France international has been recognised as football's best player of the previous 12 months after enjoying a spectacular 2024/25 season.

Dembele starred for PSG as they won a historic treble, achieving glory in Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the Champions League. In doing so, the Parisians became only the second French club to win the European Cup after bitter rivals Marseille.

The 28-year-old scored a whopping 35 goals and provided 16 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions. Eight of his goals came in PSG's rip-roaring European campaign.

Dembele's stunning form took many by surprise, as he had previously earned a reputation for being an injury-prone, inconsistent winger. However, PSG boss Luis Enrique managed to get the absolute best out of the France international.

Other winners

In addition to the Men’s Ballon d’Or, a number of other awards were also handed out during the ceremony.

For example, Lamine Yamal won the Men's Kopa Trophy as the best young player for the second consecutive year, becoming the first player to do so. Fellow Barcelona wonderkid Vicky Lopez won the women's edition of the Kopa Trophy.

Sarina Wiegman and Luis Enrique were recognised as the best coaches of the previous year for their exploits with the English women's national team and PSG, respectively.

Gianluigi Donnarumma was, unsurprisingly, recognised as the best men's goalkeeper for his performances for treble-winning PSG prior to his move to Man City. Chelsea star Hannah Hampton, meanwhile, won the Women's Yashin Trophy after helping England win Euro 2025.

Barcelona striker Ewa Pajor and Arsenal forward Viktor Gyokeres won the Gerd Muller Trophy after impressive goal hauls. The latter netted prolifically for Sporting CP before joining the Gunners.

Having won the UEFA Women's Champions League, Arsenal, led by head coach Renee Slegers, were named the Women's Club of the Year. PSG, who claimed the Champions League as well as Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France, won the men's award.

Sira Martinez, the daughter of PSG boss Luis Enrique, received the Socrates Award for social engagement on behalf of the Xana Foundation for its work in helping children with serious illnesses. The foundation is named after Enrique's late daughter, who passed away in 2019, aged nine.

Barcelona superstar Aitana Bonmati has won the Ballon d'Or for the third consecutive year, cementing her place as one of the best-ever players to grace a football pitch.
