Achraf Hakimi, PSG, 2021/22

Achraf Hakimi’s transfer from Inter Milan to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021 makes him the most expensive right-back in football history.

The Moroccan international arrived in the French capital for a fee of €68 million after impressing PSG during his time at San Siro under the management of Antonio Conte.

Hakimi only spent one season at Inter before leaving for Ligue 1, having joined the Nerazzurri from Real Madrid for €43m in 2020.

Before Hakimi’s move from Inter to PSG, Joao Cancelo held the title of the most expensive right-back of all time. The Portuguese star joined Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City from Juventus for €65m in 2019, having only signed for the Old Lady one season prior.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the third most expensive right-back of all-time due to his €55m transfer from Crystal Palace to Manchester United in 2019. Wan-Bissaka, a Crystal Palace academy graduate, left his boyhood club after a breakout 2018/19 campaign.

Another Premier League transfer is the fourth biggest move involving a right-back in history - Kyle Walker from Tottenham Hotspur to Manchester City. Man City paid Spurs a fee of €52.7m to sign the England international in 2017, meaning the Citizens feature twice in the list of the 10 most expensive right-backs of all time.

The fifth most expensive right-back of all-time is once again Achraf Hakimi, who appears in the top 10 for the second time. His transfer from Real Madrid to Inter cost €43m. In sixth place is another player to feature for a second time - Joao Cancelo. He joined Juventus for €40.4m from Valencia in 2018.

Nelson Semedo is eighth in the standings; he joined Barcelona for €35.7m in 2017. Dani Alves and Benjamin Pavard round off the top 10 most expensive right-backs of all time. Alves cost Barcelona €35.5m in 2008, while Bayern Munich purchased Pavard for €35m in 2019.
