AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara is highly likely to be Liverpool’s next first-team signing following his failed summer move to Chelsea.

The Senegal international was on the verge of joining Xabi Alonso’s side on Transfer Deadline Day, but Monaco pulled the plug on the deal despite accepting a €55 million bid from the Premier League giants.

Chelsea were left incensed by Monaco’s conduct and it’s understood that while Camara remains a top target for the Blues, there is no guarantee they will rekindle their interest in the midfielder next year.

Chelsea also have the likes of Alex Scott and Manu Kone on their transfer radar, and it has been reported that their frayed relationship with Monaco’s hierarchy may scupper Camara’s hopes of moving to Stamford Bridge in 2027.

Instead, the 22-year-old could be set to join Liverpool instead, with Andoni Iraola’s side eager to finalise a deal amid their pursuit of a replacement for Alexis Mac Allister.

The Reds have been linked with Camara for several months and AnfieldWatch report that Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward travelled to meet the midfielder’s representatives towards the end of the summer window.

It’s reported that Liverpool have informed Camara’s camp they will pursue his signature in 2027 and given their need to agree a deal for a suitable replacement for Mac Allister, it would come as no surprise if the Senegal star is the club’s first signing of next year.

Liverpool are widely regarded as the frontrunners to secure Camara’s signature next year, despite the fact he was on the verge of joining Chelsea on Deadline Day, and Monaco team-mate Denis Zakaria recently admitted that he told the 22-year-old to reject a summer move to west London.

Speaking to reporters in the mixed-zone after Monaco’s 2-1 win over RC Lens in mid-September, Zakaria was asked if he discussed the possibility of joining the Blues with Camara before the window closed.

“Chelsea? I told him that it was good but that it is better here,” the Switzerland star replied (via Metro).

“I know the player and the person that he is; he is very professional. I think that [the transfer saga] has given him even more strength. He was incredible today.”
