Carrick in dreamland: Man Utd target 'likely' to secure 2027 transfer
Former Manchester United star Scott McTominay is likely to leave Napoli during the 2027 summer transfer window, according to a bombshell report in Italy.
The Scotland international played a pivotal role as Napoli won the Serie A title during his debut campaign at the club, registering 18 goal contributions in 34 league games, and he subsequently finished 18th in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings.
However, McTominay will turn 30 years old in December and as his current contract with Massimiliano Allegri’s side is due to expire in 2028, he is likely to be sold unless a new deal is finalised.
That is according to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, who claim that Napoli are currently unwilling to meet McTominay’s annual salary demand of €8 million. It’s understood that an extension is therefore unlikely to be agreed.
Meanwhile, it’s reported that Napoli could accept an offer worth between €25-30m, despite the fact that his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at just shy of €40m following two years of eye-catching form in Italy.
McTominay is reportedly open to leaving Napoli if they are unable to match his contract demands, although he refuted such claims back in February. “I am extremely happy here and, as far as I am concerned, I am a Napoli player,” he told reporters at the time.
“It is all I think about. The future is very important, and I could see myself in Napoli for a long time. I love this place. Difficulties have been minimal, my family is happy and I’m happy.”
However, a sale is likely to be agreed if he refuses to sign a new contract, and Man Utd could be well-placed to finalise a deal.
Scott McTominay to rejoin Man Utd?
McTominay has been linked with a move back to Man Utd ever since he left the club and Tuttomercatoweb state that Michael Carrick’s side submitted an enquiry to sign him over the summer amid their pursuit of midfield reinforcements.
While a deal failed to materialise, Man Utd may be forced to dip back into the transfer market if Bruno Fernandes leaves the club next year, and McTominay will likely be one of their top targets for the role.
The Scotland superstar has 37 goal involvements in 82 games for Napoli and Man Utd will face strong competition for his signature next summer, with Aston Villa believed to be suitors, and Real Madrid among the clubs who could consider an approach.
