Arsenal target wants to emulate Bruno Guimaraes: 'Someone I really look up to'

Corinthians youngster Breno Bidon has revealed his admiration for Arsenal midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, which is interesting in light of the Gunners' interest in the newly minted Brazil star.

The 21-year-old made his senior debut for the Selecao earlier today, coming on for a few minutes as a substitute in a 4-2 victory over Australia. Bidon's rise to the top has been swifter than even he could have imagined in his wildest dreams.

Despite still being a young player, Bidon is closing in on 150 senior appearances for Corinthians, having broken into the first team in 2024. His impressive showing in the second leg of the 2025 Copa do Brasil final put him firmly on the radar of Europe's elite.

Speaking to the Brazilian FA's media department this week, Bidon admitted that he didn't expect to find himself in Carlo Ancelotti's squad already. "The feeling is the best possible," he said. "I’m fulfilling a childhood dream. I never imagined I could be experiencing this moment so quickly."

"I believe I’m going to enjoy and make the most of everything I can here. It’s a huge experience, so I believe this moment will be very important for me. Hopefully it’s the first of many."

Bidon idolises Guimaraes

When asked about the players he looks up to, he pointed to a new teammate of his. "From the current generation, Bruno Guimaraes is someone I follow a lot," Bidon explained.

"He had a very good World Cup and managed to stand out. He is someone who has already experienced a lot in football. He started young in Brazil, and he’s someone I really look up to.

"From what I’ve seen while being around him, he has a very good and winning mentality. And on the pitch, I don’t even need to say anything. He’s been playing really well."

The similarities between Bidon and the Arsenal star are not difficult to see. Much like Guimaraes, the 21-year-old can play virtually every role and position in midfield, even occasionally featuring out wide.

The admiration for his compatriot is particularly notable due to Arsenal's interest. They were one of the clubs most prominently linked with Bidon following his Copa do Brasil final performance.

In fact, there were claims in Brazil during the winter that Arsenal had initiated contact with Bidon to sound out a possible transfer, although nothing ultimately came of this.

The fact that he has now made his Brazil bow will have only increased his profile and reputation, and it must be said that it is just reward for an impressive 2026.

Bidon has made 46 appearances for Corinthians this year, scoring four times from midfield. He had only netted twice in senior football before the turn of the year.

He has taken his game to a new level, and it would not be a shock if a European transfer beckoned in 2027. Perhaps Arsenal are still watching and willing to reunite him with his idol.
