Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Aston Villa are well placed to land their first major summer signing, with Unai Emery’s men poised to land a talented young forward.

Villa sold Jhon Duran to Al-Nassr during the January transfer window for a sum of €77 million but did not replace the Colombia international.

Now Romano says that the Villa Park side are close to making a major signing who could act as a like-for-like replacement.

The football transfer news reporter says that Emery is closing in on Feyenoord striker Zepiqueno Redmond.

Taking to X, Romano reports: “Aston Villa are in talks to sign Feyenoord talent Zepiqueno Redmond, as he’s considered a striker with important potential.

“There are also UK and Italian clubs keen with player now set to make final decisions soon, Villa leading the race and in good position.”

Redmond has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of just €600,000 due to a lack of first-team exposure.

Who is Zepiqueno Redmond?

Redmond is an 18-year-old forward who, like Jhon Duran, is capable of either playing through the middle of the attack or on the wing.

He has featured primarily for Feyenoord’s U21 side this season and has made only nine appearances for the Rotterdam side’s top team. However, two of these have come in the Champions League.

Moreover, he has scored a couple of goals in his nine outings, with both of these coming in the KNVB Beker clash against Maastricht in December.

Redmond is currently ineligible to gain a UK work permit, so this is something that Aston Villa may need to work around. They could sign him and then send him on loan to a club in Europe in order to build up more points, which is an approach Chelsea have used in the past when signing young talent from abroad.
