Chelsea have been handed a double boost in their pursuit of Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Ramsdale was demoted to second-choice at the Emirates Stadium when The Gunners signed David Raya last summer.

Mikel Arteta clearly thought that he could upgrade the goalkeeper position and it turns out that he was right.

His side boasted the best defensive record in the Premier League in the 2023-24 season, conceding just 29 times in 38 games.

Ramsdale is still a good goalkeeper, though, hence he is part of Gareth Southgate's squad for the upcoming European Championship.

But, he will not start at the tournament, as Jordan Pickford enjoyed a much better campaign at Everton.

The only way that Ramsdale can force his way into the eleven is with a successful move elsewhere, and Chelsea are said to be one of the teams interested in his services.

Chelsea handed double boost

The Blues will no longer face competition from Newcastle in the race for Ramsdale this summer.

That is because Eddie Howe's team have reportedly agreed to sign Valencia's Giorgi Mamardashvili instead.

With all of the other Premier League teams in European competition being settled in the goalkeeper department, Chelsea now have a clear run at the England man.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are seemingly prepared to offload Ramsdale this summer as they are targeting Feyenoord's Justin Bijlow, according to The Mirror.

The Gunners' asking price has been rumoured to be as high as £50 million, but that could decrease drastically if they are able to sign a replacement on the cheap.
