Mount to Man Utd has been a DISASTER – but Chelsea have Premier League’s worst signing

Mason Mount’s transfer from Chelsea to Manchester United last summer has proven a disaster.

Although the midfielder scored for the Red Devils against Brentford at the weekend in a 1-1 draw, his move to Man Utd has brought only frustration thus far.

Mount has had two spells on the sidelines due to injury. First, he missed a month early in the season but just a handful of matches into his return he was struck down by a calf problem. Prior to his goal-scoring cameo against Brentford, he had been missing since November.

The 25-year-old has experienced a period of ‘rapid decline’ in his overall ability since moving to Man Utd, according to data analytics experts SciSports.

This should perhaps come as little surprise, though. Mount’s form had been on the slide well before he left Chelsea for Man Utd last summer in a €64 million deal that shocked everyone with the size of the price tag. He only had a year left on his deal at Stamford Bridge.

Mount nightmare put into perspective

Indeed, SciSports reports that among players who made transfers last summer, Mount ranks as the worst outfield player in terms of the decline he has suffered. Such has been his decline, it is questionable whether he even deserves to start for Man Utd, the data analytics experts report.

Chelsea, though, cannot afford to gloat. They have the player who ranks worst in the Premier League in terms of their decline after a move.

Robert Sanchez left Brighton for Stamford Bridge last summer but has been a disaster. He has made only 21 appearances for the Blues but has not featured in the Premier League since suffering a knee injury in December.

Djordje Petrovic, signed from the New England Revolution, is now Chelsea’s first choice, although he has still conceded 22 times in 13 games.

Chelsea can be consoled somewhat by the fact that the two goalkeepers cost less than Man Utd paid them for Mount.
