Alvarez breaks silence over 'irrelevant' Barcelona transfer links after Atletico Madrid masterclass
Julian Alvarez has spoken about his future at Atletico Madrid after reports that Barcelona are among the sides aiming to break the bank to sign the World Cup winner.
Alvarez has been a key figure for Atletico Madrid since joining them from Manchester City for €75 million in 2024 and he has continued his fine form this season with six goals in seven La Liga matches.
Barcelona are said to be ready to make a huge offer for Alvarez next summer, while the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool also enquired about the forward during the transfer window, although Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Alvarez will not decide on his future until after next year's World Cup.
The 25-year-old also netted and grabbed two assists in Atletico’s Champions League victory over Eintracht Frankfurt and he took the opportunity after the game to brush off the speculation over his future.
"Look, I'm very calm about it all," he told ESPN after the 5-1 win. "People always talk. Last year, there was a lot of talk as well, but the season is just starting and my focus is on getting better every day, doing my best for the club, helping my teammates and winning here.
"That's all I'm thinking about. What people say on social media is irrelevant."
Simeone not worried over Alvarez future
Atletico manager Diego Simeone also echoed Alvarez’s comments by insisting he was not worried over the situation and was looking forward to the Argentine international remaining with the club for ‘many years to come’.
"I'm not worried because we're thinking about the team and it's a situation involving the club and the player," Simeone told ESPN.
"We need to think about what's happening with the team. Julián is an extraordinary player. He is committed to the team, he is committed to the club, he is giving his all, obviously, and we are delighted to have him with us.
"We have to take good care of him so that he stays with us for many years to come."
