Man Utd receive tempting update on transfer target also wanted by Arsenal
Manchester United-linked Christian Kofane is reluctant to sign a new contract with Bayer Leverkusen as things stand, according to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg.
Bundesliga side Leverkusen are keen to offer Kofane a two-year extension to his current terms, which expire in the summer of 2029.
However, negotiations are believed to have stalled after the 20-year-old expressed his dissatisfaction at playing second fiddle to Patrik Schick.
Kofane has made six appearances for Leverkusen this season but only one of them has come as a starter - against Augsburg in the Bundesliga on 12 September.
German newspaper BILD understands United have made contact with the striker’s representatives to gauge his interest in joining them.
And now Plettenberg claims Kofane is “keen” to play in the Premier League one day, with Arsenal also believed to be considering his merits.
The Cameroon international joined Leverkusen from Spanish outfit Albacete for a fee believed to be higher than his €5million (£4.2m) release clause in July 2025.
Kofane scored seven goals in 44 appearances for the German side last season, while he has netted three times in 2026-27 so far.
Man Utd & Arsenal were linked with several forwards this summer
United were linked with a number of strikers in the summer as they considered signing someone who could challenge Benjamin Sesko for a starting berth.
However, the Red Devils decided to retain the services of Netherlands international Joshua Zirkzee instead of signing a new marksman.
Arsenal meanwhile were linked with several attackers themselves as they looked to make a notable addition to their forward line in the summer.
The Gunners pursued Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior and Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez but missed out on both players.
Premier League champions Arsenal did sign one forward, however, with Christos Tzolis joining from Belgian Pro League side Club Brugge for €40m (£35m).
BILD understands Aston Villa, Everton and Newcastle United are also interested in acquiring Kofane, should he fail to sign a new contract with Leverkusen.
