Man Utd tipped to finalise deal for €65m star
Manchester United may reportedly consider offers for Leny Yoro next year amid concerns over the game time he will receive under Michael Carrick.
The France international, who made his senior debut for Les Blues against Belgium earlier this month, was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid before joining Man Utd for €62 million, but his stock has dipped thanks to an underwhelming first two years at Old Trafford.
Yoro was included in the starting XI for the first time in the Premier League this season during Man Utd’s 1-1 draw versus Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening, however he filled in at right-back rather than in his usual centre-back berth and he was subsequently withdrawn in the 59th minute.
It’s understood that Man Utd may consider a loan deal for Yoro when the winter transfer window opens, while a permanent sale could also be on the cards if he fails to cement his place as a regular starter over the coming weeks.
Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez and Ayden Heaven all appear to be ahead of Yoro in the centre-back pecking order at Old Trafford, and Matthijs de Ligt will likely play a prominent role once he returns to full fitness following close to a year on the sidelines with a back injury.
Leny Yoro transfer prediction
“Leny Yoro is a very good player, and he’s very highly regarded at Manchester United,” former Man Utd chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider.
“The problem is, there isn’t really a place for him in the side at the moment unless he’s going to fill in at right-back, but that’s not his favourite position so I’m not sure it’ll be a long-term thing.
“They need him to improve, but the only way you can develop that is by playing every week, experiencing these situations and adapting, but that isn't happening at the moment.
“So there’s been talk he could leave on loan in January, and I have no doubts there will be a number of clubs interested in taking him if that is the case. When we’re talking about clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, it’s not like money is going to be an issue, so United can demand what they want, really.
“I think that’s unlikely, it’s not something they’re planning to do and I would be surprised if it happened, but I do think every player has a price regardless of who they are.
“There are high hopes for his development, but he’s not going to develop if he’s not playing often, so maybe they could let him go for a big fee rather than allowing him to stagnate.”
Yoro has just under three years remaining on his current contract at Man Utd, and his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €64.2m.
