Liverpool get green light to sign Bradley Barcola: Confidence over €120m deal

Liverpool are pushing hard for the signing of PSG winger Bradley Barcola, and there is confidence that a deal will get done.

The Reds are scrambling to add further attacking reinforcements after hijacking Newcastle's deal for Spain international Victor Munoz. Having been snubbed by Yan Diomande, Liverpool are now going all-in on Barcola.

However, the deal has been slow to progress. Although it is understood that the France winger is keen to move to Anfield, PSG have not played ball so far. The European champions would ideally like to keep hold of the 23-year-old.

PSG accept, though, that Barcola wants to be a regular starter, and this is not something they can offer him at present. The player has so far refused to sign a new contract and is actively looking to move on.

The perennial Ligue 1 winners are therefore in the process of bringing in replacements and reinforcements. Maghnes Akliouche has completed his medical and will join from AS Monaco for €50 million imminently, while discussions over a deal for Ajax sensation Mika Godts are ongoing.

PSG insider: Barcola to Liverpool will get done

Once these deals are formally completed, PSG could be more willing to negotiate for Barcola. So far, they have insisted that he is worth north of €150m, potentially as much as €170m, which would make him a Premier League-record transfer.

Liverpool, understandably, do not want to pay that much after making two record-shattering attacking signings last summer. The situation is gridlocked, but the Reds are pushing hard for a breakthrough.

And according to L'Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi, a deal is likely to get done before Deadline Day on 1 September. The PSG insider is of the opinion that Barcola will become a new Liverpool player.

Asked directly during a Q&A whether this transfer will be completed, Tanzi said: "It's a difficult question because the deal is far from being finalised. But I like to take chances and make predictions.

"This isn't information I've already shared, but I'm inclined to say yes, even though the two clubs' positions are still very far apart. Paris are hoping for €150m, excluding bonuses. Liverpool don't want to go above €120m.

"There's still time to reach an agreement, and if Paris manages to sign a winger and a striker, their positions will surely be able to move closer together more easily. Meanwhile, Barcola has already agreed contractually with Liverpool."

Liverpool are also currently being linked with PSG youngster Ibrahim Mbaye, who would be signed as a replacement for Mohamed Salah on the right flank. However, according to Tanzi, discussions are at a very early stage.

Responding to a second Liverpool question, Tanzi explained why the Reds want to sign Barcola and Mbaye. "[Cody] Gakpo could leave the club. Tottenham are in negotiations to try and lure him away from the north of England," he said.

"The same goes for [Federico] Chiesa, who could also leave Liverpool. The Reds are therefore looking for two players, and Barcola is their priority for the left flank.

"Our colleagues at RMC reported this morning that Liverpool are also interested in Mbaye. We can confirm this interest, but nothing more. It doesn't seem that the English club's management has taken any further steps at the moment, as the player isn't universally popular within the club.

"What seems fairly certain, however, is that the Senegalese international wants to play in the Premier League next season. Chelsea, Manchester City and Aston Villa have also expressed interest in recent months.

"Bayer Leverkusen appear to be the most eager club, having already made significant progress in discussions with PSG. However, the German side don't have €50m to invest in Mbaye."

A deal for Barcola isn't yet close, but there is growing confidence that he will soon be plying his trade on Merseyside.
