Alvaro Arbeloa’s side have reportedly earmarked the 25-year-old as one of their top targets for this summer, as they look to bring a new central midfielder to the club, and it’s understood that Fernandez is eager to complete a move to the Bernabeu.

The former Benfica star admitted that he would love to live in Madrid in a controversial interview while on international duty with Argentina, while he also hailed Los Blancos legends Toni Kroos and Luka Modric as the best opponents he has ever faced.

Following his comments, Fernandez has been sanctioned by Chelsea, with the Blues ruling him out of contention for their 7-0 win over Port Vale in the FA Cup and their upcoming Premier League clash versus Manchester City on Sunday.

This decision has fuelled further speculation of an exit, with Fernandez’s agent Javier Pastore taking aim at the Chelsea hierarchy for his client’s punishment.

Furthermore, the 25-year-old is reportedly now willing to take things into his own hands in an attempt to convince Chelsea to sell him.

Enzo Fernandez to leave Chelsea?

Widespread reports have confirmed that Fernandez isn’t regarded as one of the club’s ‘untouchables’ by the Chelsea board and a sale could be permitted for the right price, however Real Madrid are unwilling to match the €150 million asking price that has been touted.

As a result, Fernandez is now preparing to hand in an official transfer request in a bid to tempt Chelsea into agreeing a deal, according to Spanish TV show El Chiringuito (via The Sun).

It’s claimed that Fernandez has grown frustrated at Stamford Bridge and he is reportedly ready to inform the Chelsea hierarchy of his desire to leave ahead of the 2026 summer transfer window.

The Blues have already agreed personal terms with Strasbourg midfielder Valentin Barco ahead of a summer move, with the 21-year-old potentially set to replace Fernandez at Stamford Bridge, while they could rekindle their interest in Aston Villa superstar Morgan Rogers if their vice-captain departs ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
