Man Utd Transfer News Today: Moises Caicedo request as deal edges closer
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Manchester United transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Moises Caicedo and JJ Gabriel.
Moises Caicedo to Man Utd?
Man Utd legend Antonio Valencia has told his former club to pursue a deal for Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo next year.
The 24-year-old’s current contract at Chelsea isn’t due to expire until 2033 and he was named as one of the club’s ‘untouchables’ over the summer, alongside the likes of Levi Colwill, Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro and Josh Acheampong. However, Valencia believes Man Utd should attempt to sign his compatriot next year.
During an interview with Spanish outlet AS ahead of Man Utd’s Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night, Valencia said: “This year the team has struggled a bit. I think they still need two or three more signings for United to be able to do better.”
When pressed on who his former club should pursue, the 41-year-old admitted: “I'd sign another midfielder. I'd bring in a player like Moises Caicedo, keeping it local (laughs). And then I'd bring in a centre-back and a right or left full-back.”
JJ Gabriel deal edges closer
Barcelona and Real Madrid are leading the race to sign Man Utd wonderkid JJ Gabriel, and the latter are confident they will secure his signature next year.
The 16-year-old has told Man Utd that he wants to leave the club with immediate effect and while the Red Devils were initially hopeful of persuading him to stay, that now seems highly unlikely.
Instead, Gabriel is edging closer to a La Liga switch, with Spanish outlet SPORT confirming that Barcelona and Real Madrid are going head-to-head for his signature.
PSG eye Leny Yoro
Paris Saint-Germain are actively monitoring Leny Yoro’s situation at Manchester United ahead of a possible approach next year.
The former Lille starlet is still only 20 years old, but rumours suggest that Man Utd may be amenable to a sale if they receive a lucrative offer for his services and talkSPORT report that PSG are keeping close tabs on his situation at Old Trafford.
It’s reported that PSG scouts watched him in action during France’s 4-1 win over Belgium earlier this month and although Man Utd believe Yoro could play a key role in future years, there is optimism that a bid could be accepted amid his lack of game time under Michael Carrick.
TEAMtalk have also confirmed PSG’s interest in the 20-year-old, with Luis Enrique’s side expected to explore a potential deal in 2027.
Eddie Howe to join?
Man Utd will “probably” look to appoint Eddie Howe as manager if they decide to sack Michael Carrick, according to Paul Merson.
Carrick was named head coach on a permanent basis in May after leading the Red Devils to Champions League qualification as interim boss last term, but he has presided over the club’s worst start to a season for 40 years.
Rumours of a sacking are rife and should United opt to dismiss Carrick, Merson reckons the club would look to name former Newcastle United manager Howe as his replacement.
Writing in his Sky Sports column, Merson said: “Now, who else is going to come in [if Carrick is sacked]? Eddie Howe is probably the man they'd go for. He's the only one about, isn't he?
“Antonio Conte could go in, he'd steady the ship. But I don't know if he wants to play entertaining football and set the world alight. I don't know what the Man Utd owners want.”
Paul Scholes warning
However, Paul Scholes has warned the Man Utd hierarchy that sacking Carrick may not be the smartest idea.
“We’ve been here for the last three years,” Scholes said on the latest episode of The Good, The Bad & The Football.
“We look like it looks like or the sound it sounds like, they’re going to change the manager again. How can we keep doing this? We’re back to square one after six games of the season.
“When do you stop sacking managers and start blaming people above, the people who are possibly buying the players, the people who are pointing at Michael?”
Dinamo Zagreb striker wanted
Man Utd are keeping close tabs on the form of Dinamo Zagreb striker Dion Beljo amid competition from Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.
That is according to TEAMtalk, who claim that a January deal could potentially be on the cards as clubs across the Premier League begin to take notice.
Beljo, 24, has scored 12 goals in his 13 games across all competitions for Dinamo Zagreb so far this season.
