Transfer Rumours: Chelsea receive Enzo Fernandez exit threat as Arsenal decision confirmed
FootballTransfers runs through the biggest rumours and gossip from 16 March, including the latest updates on Enzo Fernandez and Riccardo Calafiori.
Enzo Fernandez exit threat
Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez could reportedly leave the club this summer amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.
The Argentina international has been linked with a Stamford Bridge exit for the best part of 12 months, but a departure could now be on the cards later this year as he assesses his options ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
It has previously been stated that Chelsea have no intention of selling the 25-year-old as his current deal with the west London giants isn’t due to expire until 2032 and the Blues regard him as one of their most important players, alongside the likes of Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer and Reece James.
However, while it has previously been claimed that Fernandez is happy at Chelsea, a summer exit is now a possibility, according to TyC Sports reporter Gaston Edul.
The Argentine journalist posted on X: “Enzo Fernandez has chances of leaving Chelsea in the next European summer transfer window.”
Riccardo Calafiori decision
Arsenal have made a decision over the future of Riccardo Calafiori after reports linking the defender with a shock move to rivals Chelsea this summer.
With Arsenal set to confirm the permanent signing of another left-sided defender in Piero Hincapie, speculation had emerged of Chelsea potentially attempting to tempt Calafiori away with a move across London.
Calafiori had previously admitted he would be open to a return back to his native country but, despite interest from a number of Serie A giants, the 23-year-old remains a key figure for Mikel Arteta, who has long admired the youngster.
TEAMtalk have claimed that Arsenal have ‘no plans’ to move on from Calafiori and are ‘fully committed’ to keeping him at the club, with the player also said to be settled in north London and not ‘actively seeking’ a transfer away.
Andy Robertson to Celtic?
Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson is reportedly unlikely to join Celtic this summer, despite rumours suggesting that he could return to Scotland ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
Liverpool are yet to initiate advanced talks over a contract extension with Robertson, despite rejecting an approach from Tottenham Hotspur during the recent winter transfer window, but a new deal hasn’t yet been ruled out.
Despite this, Robertson has been widely tipped to leave Anfield this summer after a hugely successful nine-year stay at the club, and Celtic have emerged as possible candidates for his signature.
However, the Liverpool defender is unlikely to join the Scottish giants, according to Football Insider.
Robertson is a boyhood Celtic fan, but he is still eager to play at the highest level possible and amid interest from several Premier League clubs, it will reportedly be a “difficult deal” for the Hoops to finalise.
Man Utd swap demand
Joan Laporta’s first task after being re-elected as Barcelona’s president could be to negotiate for the permanent signing of Marcus Rashford after Manchester United reportedly asked for a player in exchange.
United have been adamant that they will not lower their demands on a fee they already consider to be below market value but Catalan outlet El Nacional claims that the Premier League side have proposed an alternative by asking Barca to include young midfielder Marc Casado in the deal.
It is believed that United would be ‘willing to accept’ an offer of €10m plus Casado, leaving the deal in the hands of Barca as they consider the prospect of reluctantly parting ways with a highly-rated youngster.
Kai Havertz interest
Arsenal could face interest in Kai Havertz this summer after the sporting director for Bayer Leverkusen admitted he would be keen on re-signing the Germany forward.
Havertz came through Leverkusen’s academy and made 150 appearances for the club before joining Chelsea in 2020 followed by a €75 million move to the Gunners three years later.
The 26-year-old has been in-and-out of the line-up during his time at Arsenal, having also struggled with injuries, and Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes revealed the club would ‘need to have a conversation’ if Havertz ever became available for transfer.
“I’m generally sceptical about bringing former players back. But with Kai [Havertz] and Florian Wirtz, I would make an exception,” Rolfes said on Sport1 programme Doppelpass.
“[Havertz] spent ten years in our youth system. We maintain close contact with Kai and if the situation arises, we would need to have a conversation.
“At the moment, however, he is in a different phase of his career and feels very comfortable at Arsenal. He left the club to reach the top of world football.”
