Arsenal Transfer News Today: Kai Havertz exit threat as contract terms agreed
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Arsenal transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Kai Havertz and Fabio Vieira.
Kai Havertz exit threat
Arsenal could face interest in Kai Havertz this summer after Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director admitted he would be keen on re-signing the Germany forward.
Havertz came through Leverkusen’s academy and made 150 appearances for the club before joining Chelsea in 2020, followed by a €75 million move to the Gunners three years later.
The 26-year-old has been in-and-out of the line-up during his time at Arsenal, having also struggled with injuries, and Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes revealed the club would ‘need to have a conversation’ if Havertz ever became available for transfer.
“I’m generally sceptical about bringing former players back. But with Kai [Havertz] and Florian Wirtz, I would make an exception,” Rolfes said on Sport1 programme Doppelpass.
“[Havertz] spent ten years in our youth system. We maintain close contact with Kai and if the situation arises, we would need to have a conversation.
“At the moment, however, he is in a different phase of his career and feels very comfortable at Arsenal. He left the club to reach the top of world football.”
Fabio Vieira contract
Forgotten Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira has agreed a long-term contract with loan club Hamburger SV, but one major issue still needs to be ironed out before his move can be made permanent.
The Portugal international was loaned to HSV last year, with the Bundesliga outfit agreeing to include a €20m purchase clause, despite not having the transfer funds to afford such a deal.
They have since been in talks with Arsenal to renegotiate the fee and it is understood that the 25-year-old is keen to stay.
Indeed, BILD reports that Vieira has already agreed a new long-term contract with Hamburg in anticipation of his move being made permanent. However, HSV's budget for Vieira reportedly does not exceed the €10m mark and convincing Arsenal to sell could therefore prove tricky.
Riccardo Calafiori decision
Arsenal have made a decision over the future of Riccardo Calafiori after reports linking the defender with a shock move to rivals Chelsea this summer.
With Arsenal set to confirm the permanent signing of another left-sided defender in Piero Hincapie, speculation had emerged of Chelsea potentially attempting to tempt Calafiori away with a move across London.
Calafiori had previously admitted he would be open to a return back to his native country but, despite interest from a number of Serie A giants, the 23-year-old remains a key figure for Mikel Arteta, who has long admired the youngster.
TEAMtalk have claimed that Arsenal have ‘no plans’ to move on from Calafiori and are ‘fully committed’ to keeping him at the club, with the player also said to be settled in north London and not ‘actively seeking’ a transfer away.
Arsenal eye hijack
Arsenal have entered the race for Midtjylland star Dario Osorio after Liverpool had a bid for the winger rejected, according to Danish media.
Primarily a right-winger, the 22-year-old has scored six goals and provided 10 assists for Midtjylland so far this season and as a result of his exploits, Premier League interest is ramping up.
According to Campo, Bournemouth are Osorio's most persistent suitors, but Liverpool, who are in the market for a long-term Mohamed Salah replacement, previously had a bid of less than €10 million rejected because it was nowhere near Midtjylland's valuation.
Moreover, Arsenal have taken a liking to the Chilean, adding him to their shortlist of young targets. The Gunners' interest should come as no surprise as their chief South America scout, Jonathan Vidalle, revealed last October that he has been following Osorio's development closely. Indeed, he went so far as to suggest that he has a similar profile to Argentina icon Angel di Maria.
