Arsenal target's contract standoff turns ugly: I've been thrown under the bus!
Arsenal have received another boost in their pursuit of Senny Mayulu as the player's camp has accused PSG of "throwing him under the bus."
The France U21 international has hit the headlines in recent weeks, though not for his exploits on the pitch. While his development has been exceptional - he already has 75 senior appearances under his belt at just 19 - his future at PSG is in doubt.
Mayulu's current contract with the Ligue 1 giants expires in 2027, making an extension a fairly pressing priority. PSG already showed during the Gianluigi Donnarumma saga that they will not allow their prized assets to walk away for nothing.
As a result, PSG will likely look to sell the teenager this summer if they can't reach an agreement with him on fresh terms. So far, it has been virtually impossible to find common ground.
Reports in France have suggested that Mayulu's wage demands are the biggest stumbling block. He is said to be unwilling to fit into PSG's wage structure and is asking to be brought in line with more established players.
Mayulu's camp hits back
Journalist Dominique Severac recently claimed that a "point of no return" had been reached. "From experience, PSG can accept one counteroffer, but not two," he explained.
"That is what is provoking his exit at the end of the season. The club don’t appreciate that he has rejected three offers. The point of no return has seemingly been reached."
However, those close to Mayulu have now hit back at suggestions that the player's demands are blocking negotiations. Speaking via L'Equipe, his camp has accused PSG of "throwing him under the bus."
It is claimed that individuals at the club are responsible for the skewed reporting on Mayulu. The stories of his exorbitant demands have been planted in the media to put pressure on the teenager, the people consulted argue.
Despite these accusations, the report adds that the situation has somewhat calmed down in recent times. Nevertheless, negotiations have yet to officially resume.
Suitors are, of course, keenly following the matter. Arsenal and Chelsea have both been linked with a move for the wonderkid. A move to North London, in particular, would make sense.
FootballTransfers previously explained that Mayulu could be a suitable replacement for Arsenal should they be forced to cash in on Kai Havertz this summer amid concerns over UEFA's Squad Cost Ratio rule.
Like the German, Mayulu is incredibly versatile. An attacker by trade, he has often been used in midfield by Luis Enrique, but without compromising his offensive instincts. The youngster has scored 12 goals for PSG since breaking into the first team.
