Celtic face last-minute twist over €3.5m signing
Celtic's proposed deal for Lorient winger Joel Mvuka is in doubt after the player's medical.
The English Premier League deadline has passed, but clubs in the Scottish Premiership can still do business until 11 pm. Celtic, who have already signed Junior Adamu today, are trying to put this additional time to good use by making a couple more signings.
The Hoops are in talks with Brentford over a deal for England youth international Benjamin Arthur, a 20-year-old centre-back. It is believed that his signing could pave the way for Stephen Welsh to return to Motherwell.
Additionally, Celtic agreed a deal with Lorient for right-winger Joel Mvuka. The former Norway youth international has struggled for consistent game time at the promoted Ligue 1 side this term.
The two clubs reportedly settled on a €3.5 million fee for the 23-year-old, and Mvuka underwent his medical. However, Sky Sports claims that the deal is now in the balance.
Mvuka fails medical
The report states that Mvuka's medical "brought up issues that require further investigation." As a result, the deal has been put on ice until further clarification arrives.
It is added that it is up in the air whether or not Celtic will proceed with the deal before the deadline. It is surely too late for the Parkhead club to source an alternative option now.
The winger has played just one minute of competitive football in the past three weeks, and he was an unused substitute in Lorient's last two Ligue 1 outings, which is perhaps a sign that something isn't quite right with him physically.
Celtic also explored a deal for Mvuka's teammate Mohamed Bamba, a striker, earlier in the window, but it became clear quite quickly that a deal would not be possible.
