Celtic eye shock move for former Arsenal and Liverpool superstar
Celtic are interested in signing former Arsenal and Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The 32-year-old is a free agent after leaving Besiktas in the summer. Oxlade-Chamberlain departed Turkey with the goal of returning to England to play, but he has been without a club since.
There has been plenty of interest from the Championship, with Birmingham City frequently associated with a move. However, nothing seems to have appealed to the midfielder yet.
In recent weeks, Oxlade-Chamberlain has been keeping himself fit at his former club Arsenal. Although he has primarily trained with the U21s, he recently took part in some sessions with Mikel Arteta's first team.
Earlier on Monday, the Gunners manager did not rule out the option of handing Oxlade-Chamberlain a contract to cover the hole left by Mikel Merino following his foot injury.
Celtic interested in Oxlade-Chamberlain
Arsenal would have to make a final decision on the veteran by Thursday, which is the deadline for Premier League squad registration. However, Sky Sports reports that Celtic could also be an option for the 32-year-old,
It is claimed that the Hoops hold an interest in Oxlade-Chamberlain, although the report does not reveal if it is in any way advanced. Of course, Celtic are under no pressure to agree a deal before today's 11 pm transfer deadline because he is a free agent.
The Parkhead club's business this window has solely been in the defensive and attacking departments. Two strikers and a full-back have been signed, while talks are ongoing over a deal for Brentford youngster Benjamin Arthur.
Celtic appeared to be on the verge of signing Lorient winger Joel Mvuka for €3.5 million, but the 23-year-old's medical produced some unsatisfactory results, leaving the deal in the balance.
