Arsenal Transfer News Today: Arteta CONFIRMS first signing of the summer window in €52m deal
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Arsenal transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Piero Hincapie and Sandro Tonali.
Arteta confirms Hincapie plan
Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Arsenal are set to sign Piero Hincapie on a permanent deal after his loan spell from Bayer Leverkusen.
Hincapie has been a regular feature in Arsenal’s defence this season while Riccardo Calafiori has been injured and the Gunners are believed to have a €52m fee already agreed for his signing.
When asked about whether Hincapie was going to be signed permanently, Arteta said: “I would say so. Let's go through the season. We have already discussed the possible outcomes that we have after that period. But so far, we are very, very happy with him.”
Arteta added: “He's been extremely dominant in all the defensive actions. He understands what we want in the attacking part as well much better, all the set-pieces, all the aspects that are relative to the game model that we have.
“He's very much liked amongst the players, you can see that the way they interact and react with him. I'm very pleased that he's showing that level.”
Romano gives Tonali update
Tonali has emerged as one of the Premier League’s leading central midfielders since moving to Newcastle from AC Milan in 2023 for €59 million and Arsenal had been linked with a move for him in January.
Fabrizio Romano explained on his YouTube channel: “I think there is a strong possibility to see Sandro Tonali moving in the summer transfer window.
“With Arsenal, for sure there is appreciation. But in January it was absolutely impossible, not even realistic, not even a negotiation, because Arsenal were never going to try something impossible. Newcastle were never letting him leave in January. That story was impossible.
“In the summer it could be different. Let’s see with Arsenal, but it’s not only Arsenal. And also let’s see the price, because again it’s Newcastle dictating the timing and the price of this story. When you sit at the table with Newcastle, it’s never easy.”
Gordon on Arsenal radar
Arsenal are reportedly plotting a summer move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon amid competition from Liverpool and Manchester United.
Gordon has emerged as a top target for several Premier League clubs and The Sun now report that Arsenal are leading the race for his signature as things stand.
FootballTransfers understands that Mikel Arteta’s side are currently in talks with Rafael Leao’s representatives ahead of a potential move this summer, while they have now added Gordon to their list of transfer targets for 2026.
The Gunners reportedly believe that Gordon is ready to leave Newcastle and they are hoping to finalise a deal for a transfer fee of €85 million (£75m).
Newcastle, on the other hand, have set their asking price at just shy of €110m, but Arsenal are understood to be confident that a transfer can be arranged for a slightly cheaper price.
Arsenal join Anderson race
Anderson is expected to start alongside Declan Rice for England at the upcoming World Cup and Arsenal are keen to unite the pair at club level ahead of next season, according to a sensational report from Spanish publication Fichajes.
be difficult to finalise as both Manchester City and Manchester United are also determined to secure his signature.
The former are understood to be preparing an initial offer that matches Nottingham Forest's €115 million asking price, while the latter have identified Anderson as their dream target for 2026 amid their pursuit of a new midfielder to replace Casemiro.
It had been expected that both Manchester clubs would go head-to-head for the signing of Anderson, however Arsenal have now joined the race for his signature and the Gunners are reportedly ready to test Nottingham Forest’s resolve this summer.
