Man Utd Transfer News Today: Cole Palmer hope as agent responds to summer speculation
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Manchester United transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Cole Palmer and Felix Nmecha.
Cole Palmer to Man Utd?
Cole Palmer has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks amid the Red Devils’ pursuit of a new attacking midfielder to replace club captain Bruno Fernandes.
Reports suggest that Chelsea have no intention of sanctioning a sale this summer, but former Bolton Wanderers, West Ham United and Everton boss Sam Allardyce believes that a deal could be on the cards.
Speaking on the ‘No Tippy Tappy Football’ podcast, Allardyce said: “I think Chelsea would always sell at the right price. It’s whether Man Utd have the money that Chelsea would want. But it would certainly be a big signing for Man Utd.
“What is he now? 22? 23? He’s just the right age, five, six, seven, eight years in him. This is a particular talent that shone from day one at Chelsea when he left City. Now, there’s been a bit of a lull because of the injury, but he will get back to where he was sooner rather than later.
“He’s a tremendous talent and I often think that Chelsea, in their infrastructure, are always in a position to make a profit.”
Felix Nmecha update
Felix Nmecha’s representatives have downplayed reports that a summer transfer could be on the cards amid rumoured interest from Man Utd.
The Borussia Dortmund midfielder’s agency told BILD: “Felix still has two years left on his contract, and we fully respect that.
“Borussia Dortmund has played a key role in his development, and he is grateful for the trust and platform the club has given him. The player is developing from season to season, and when a player performs well, there is naturally always interest and questions about the future.
“That's part of top-level football and reflects the progress he has made. At the moment, the focus is very clear: Felix is determined to give everything for Borussia Dortmund, to fight for the club, and to help the team achieve its goals.
“Any discussions about the future will, in due course, always be conducted respectfully and jointly with the club.
“There is no rush and no speculation on our part – he still has two full seasons ahead of him, and football often develops quite naturally over time.
“The most important thing is to continue working hard, staying healthy and playing at the highest level. The rest will then take care of itself.”
Francesco Pio Esposito approach rejected
Inter Milan have rejected approaches from Man Utd and Arsenal for Francesco Pio Esposito, according to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira.
FootballTransfers exclusively reported that Pio Esposito has been added to Arsenal’s summer wishlist, although a deal for the Italy striker now looks increasingly difficult to finalise as Inter have no intention of sanctioning a sale.
Mateus Mane latest
Man Utd will not match Wolverhampton Wanderers’ asking price of €57.4m (£50m) for Mateus Mane this summer, as per Football Insider.
The England youngster has emerged as a target for a number of Premier League clubs amid his rapid ascent to stardom at Molineux and Man Utd are among the teams keeping a keen eye on his development under Rob Edwards.
However, the Red Devils reportedly have no intention of paying over the odds for the 18-year-old.
Pape Gueye wanted
Man Utd have added Villarreal midfielder Pape Gueye to their summer transfer shortlist amid their pursuit of a suitable replacement for Casemiro.
That is according to Foot Mercato, who claim that Man Utd are closely monitoring the 27-year-old’s form following his impressive showing at the recent Africa Cup of Nations.
Gueye has made 28 appearances for Villarreal so far this season and his current contract with the Spanish outfit is due to expire in 2028, meaning a sale could be considered this summer.
Man Utd told to sign two midfielders
Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand has urged his former club to sign two new central midfielders this summer.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the ex-England defender said: “Elliot Anderson, I would love to have him at the football club, 100%. His energy, his physicality. He knows the league.
“There are others in the market as well, a couple of young ones,” Ferdinand added. “Kees Smit - I like him a lot. If you don’t know who he is, go and have a look at him, guys. Kees Smit is a player.
“He’s a young midfielder, he can do a bit of everything really and he’s performing to a very good standard.”
Kobbie Mainoo latest
Kobbie Mainoo has played every minute of every match under interim boss Michael Carrick and he is now widely expected to remain at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future.
However, The Sun report that United are yet to re-open contract talks with Mainoo despite his current deal expiring in 2027.
With Mainoo having potentially been a candidate to be sold after rejecting United’s first offer last year, the club ‘fully intend’ to agree fresh terms with the youngster in the coming months to avoid a delicate situation spiralling out of control.
Harry Maguire contract update
Harry Maguire is currently set to become a free agent when his Man Utd contract expires in July, but former Red Devils captain Steve Bruce has urged the club to agree fresh terms with the England defender.
“I believe Harry has been made the whipping boy for too long,” Bruce told The Daily Mail. “I don't think he's ever let Man United down. In that fact, he's never let England down either.
“As I said, I think he became a whipping boy for what was going on around him. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets offered a new deal. Why wouldn't you? I think centre-halves get better with age.
“I wouldn't be surprised if he went to the World Cup either. He's got good experience, he's played at the highest level, he's never let England down either. And he's given a reminder of just what he's about over the last five, six weeks in particular, if he ever needed to.”
