Fabrizio Romano Transfer News: Jackson CONFIRMATION, Lewis-Skelly BOMBSHELL, Arsenal deal ANNOUNCED
Football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has dropped a major update on several key developments ahead of the January window, including the latest on Nicolas Jackson and Myles Lewis-Skelly.
Andre Onana update
Manchester United sent Andre Onana on loan to Trabzonspor this summer and the Red Devils have decided to sell him permanently next summer, as per Romano.
He admitted in his latest YouTube video: “I will start with Andre Onana, who is on loan from Man Utd to Trabzonspor. He will officially be back at Man Utd at the end of the current season, but his chapter at Man Utd is closed. So we can consider that over.
“Onana has been left out of the AFCON squad by Cameroon and he will be back at Man Utd in June to try to find a new solution. Man Utd believe that the chapter with Onana as their goalkeeper is over and the future is very clear: the goalkeeper they want for the present and future is Senne Lammens.”
Nicolas Jackson latest
Meanwhile, Chelsea want to sell Nicolas Jackson when his loan spell at Bayern Munich ends, even if the German giants opt against purchasing him on a permanent deal.
“Nicolas Jackson had several opportunities in the summer transfer window, but he decided to wait until the very end to go to Bayern Munich. That deal was closed on loan with an obligation to buy for €65m,” Romano said.
“Obviously Bayern also paid a big loan fee, more than €15m, and the €65m obligation to buy was valid if he played over 40 games, for at least 45 minutes, this season. Well, that’s already impossible because of the games he has played so far and because he’s travelling to AFCON with Senegal.
“So Jackson will not officially be a Bayern player with an automatic obligation to buy. But Bayern still have the possibility to keep Jackson at the end of the season through renegotiation - they can still pay €65m to Chelsea and get the player.
“At the moment, what I’m told is that Bayern want to take their time. They are happy with Jackson’s contribution so far, but spending that amount of money for Bayern is something big. So Bayern want to wait before making any decision.
“Then at the end of the season, they will assess everything. But what I can tell you is that between Jackson and Chelsea, it’s over. Chelsea are not expected to consider Jackson as part of the squad in 2026. Even if Bayern don’t sign him and he returns to Chelsea, they will look for a different solution.
“It might be Italy where there is interest, it might be Aston Villa. Aston Villa wanted him last summer and Unai Emery knows the player well.
“But what I want to tell you is that between Jackson and Chelsea, the story is considered to be over. This is a mutual decision; both Chelsea and Jackson see the future in a different way.”
Antoine Semenyo clarification
Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo has been tipped to leave the club in January, but Romano has confirmed that Man Utd aren’t in talks over a mid-season deal.
“A big name in 2026 is going to be Antoine Semenyo,” the transfer news expert revealed. “I told you about the release clause, a £65m package and I told you about the timing - the clause is not valid for the whole month of January, just a few days into January.
“Man Utd, at this stage, are not in active talks for Semenyo because their focus is on investing big money in different positions, like a new midfielder. They like Semenyo, yes. Amorim likes Semenyo for sure. But the priority is a different position now.
“Second point: Liverpool and Manchester City are informed. Both clubs remain well aware of the clause for Semenyo.”
Myles Lewis-Skelly to leave Arsenal?
Arsenal wonderkid Myles Lewis-Skelly has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs in recent weeks, amid his lack of game time this season, but the Gunners have no intention of sanctioning a departure.
Romano told his YouTube audience: “There are always rumours during the international break - rumours about a loan, maybe to Crystal Palace or West Ham. No chance. Arsenal don’t want Myles Lewis-Skelly to leave.
“And then rumours about Chelsea considering a permanent transfer proposal. Forget about that. Arsenal are very happy with him and they are not considering parting ways. Lewis-Skelly is seen as a really, really important part of the squad and he is super appreciated by Mikel Arteta.
“I don’t know where these rumours are coming from constantly, but he’s part of the project, he’s not leaving in January. Arsenal want to trust the player - that’s the message I’m getting from both the player side and club side.
“What happens in future years, we will see, but today I can guarantee 100% these stories are not true.”
Romano then confirmed that Arsenal will complete a double deal in 2027. He said: “Arsenal will sign Edwin and Olgar Quintero from Independiente del Valle, two 16-year-old talents from Ecuador. They are both in London and they will sign their contracts with Arsenal this week. The deal is done: and they will arrive at Arsenal in August 2027 when they turn 18.”
Jurgen Klopp to return to Liverpool truth
Finally, Jurgen Klopp has been linked with a return to Liverpool amid rumours that Arne Slot could be sacked, however Romano has poured cold water on such suggestions.
“Let me close today’s video by telling you that, despite all the questions I’m getting, I’m not aware of Liverpool having any sort of contact with Jurgen Klopp,” he revealed.
“Despite all the rumours about Klopp - at this stage, the message is clear: no conversations and no talks over a Klopp return to Liverpool. Klopp is fully focused on the project in the Red Bull group he’s working with and so that’s the story as of today. Everything is really quiet between Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp.”
