Borussia Dortmund director Sebastian Kehl has announced that he plans to hold talks with Chelsea over on-loan defender Aaron Anselmino.

The 20-year-old centre-back joined the Bundesliga giants in the summer after plenty of back-and-forth. In the end, Dortmund, after selling Jamie Gittens to the Blues, managed to get a two-for-one deal when they signed Carney Chukwuemeka permanently and Anselmino on loan.

At the time, Chelsea insisted that Dortmund would only be allowed to sign Chukwuemeka if the deal also included Anselmino, which must have felt quite weird for the young defender, given that he had only joined the Stamford Bridge club in January.

Perhaps because of this, it took him a while to find his feet at Dortmund, not helped by an unfortunate injury, which sidelined him for several weeks. However, the young defender is now in full flow.

Dortmund have been hugely impressed by Anselmino's recent performances, and there is a feeling that they could have a real gem on their hands if they find a way to make his stay permanent.

Dortmund want Anselmino deal

Anselmino's current arrangement with Dortmund is a straight loan without any permanent element attached, which means that the German side would have to sit down and negotiate a new deal with Chelsea in the summer.

And it seems that this is exactly what they are planning to do. When quizzed about Anselmino's future, Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl revealed that he is planning to hold some exploratory talks with Chelsea soon.

“I will have to pick up the phone and call them in the next few days," he said. "I have a pretty good connection at that club. We hope that he will stay on." It was this connection with Chelsea which helped Dortmund land Anselmino (and Chukwuemeka) in the first place.

Although talks over this double deal, as well as the one for Gittens, were difficult, the communication between the clubs was very open and respectful, helping to forge a mutually beneficial relationship, which Dortmund are now once again trying to use to their advantage.
