Hertha BSC dream of receiving a €20 million fee for Arsenal target Kennet Eichhorn, according to German media.

The 16-year-old is the breakout star of this 2. Bundesliga season. Eichhorn was promoted to the Hertha first team in the summer, and it almost immediately became clear that he was ready, despite, at the time, not even being old enough to officially feature in first-team friendlies.

Since making his competitive debut for the fallen German giants, the youngster has gone from strength to strength. On Tuesday, he put in a sensational performance for Hertha as they knocked fellow second-tier side Kaiserslautern out of the DFB-Pokal.

Eichhorn scored his first goal for the club in a 6-1 thrashing and appears to be growing in confidence with each passing game. FootballTransfers previously described his playstyle as similar to Martin Zubimendi's at Arsenal, but his outing against Lautern was almost Declan Rice-esque.

Given just how spectacular the midfielder's emergence has been, transfer rumours haven't been long in coming. Indeed, the likes of Arsenal, Bayern Munich and more have all been linked with the wonderkid in recent weeks.

Hertha want to hand Eichhorn better terms

Speaking after the Pokal game, Hertha head coach Stefan Leitl, who never misses an opportunity to wax lyrical about Eichhorn, admitted that nobody at the club expected his rise to be this rapid.

This is reflected in his contract. In the summer, Hertha managed to agree a new deal with teenager, but they already fear that he has outgrown his terms and want to increase up his salary - and his price tag.

Eichhorn is tied to Hertha until 2029, although he was formally only able to sign a three-year contract due to his age. To get around this, they employed the 3+2 approach, which means that Eichhorn's deal will be automatically extended by two years when he turns 18.

This contract includes a release clause worth just €12 million, which Hertha now feel has become wholly inadequate. According to BILD, they want to add a further year to his deal and get rid of the release clause or at least bump it up to their dream fee of €20m.

Eichhorn is not in a rush to leave the club, and Hertha are making sure that he is shielded from all the media speculation. For example, he is not yet allowed to give interviews. However, it is acknowledged that a summer move is possible, even if he signs a new deal.

Arsenal are far from the only club keeping tabs on the youngster. The report claims that every top club around Europe is interested in Germany's U17s captain, although it is important to note that he would not be able to head to the UK until he turns 18 in July 2027.
