Fabrizio Romano delivers devastating news to Chelsea fans
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Mike Maignan's move to Chelsea in 2026 is completely forzen.
Reports began to emerge this week, including in The Athletic, that Chelsea have ended their interest in the AC Milan goalkeeper.
And that has now been confirmed by Romano on his Italian YouTube channel.
Maignan to Chelsea is "frozen
Romano reports that talks for Maignan to join Chelsea are completely frozen and there is nothing going on or planned.
He says that Chelsea are very happy with the performances of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez this season.
They are also content with his number two Filip Jorgensen and also believe in Mike Penders, who is out on loan at Strasbourg.
While Chelsea wanted to sign Maignan in the summer, they now no longer want him.
The goalkeeper's contract at Milan expires at the end of the season and renewal talks have not made much headway.
Maignan's brilliant recent form has seen Milan make a late desperate attempt to keep the Frenchman by offering a new lucrative contract.
And Gazzetta dello Sport reported this week that Milan's players are pressuring Maignan to sign a new deal.
Given Chelsea are now out of the running, the chances of Maignan staying will have increased.
Chelsea tried to sign Maignan before the Club World Cup but could not agree a transfer fee with Milan.
They agreed terms with Maignan so this contract can easily be transferred over to 2026.
Chelsea were in deep negotiations for Maignan before the Club World Cup.
The Blues had two offers for Maignan rejected by Milan, the first worth €10 million and the second increased to €15m.
Chelsea's valuation fell far below what Milan considered acceptable, with the Rossoneri demanding at least €23m or more for the France number one.
The Blues refused to increase their offer, believing that €15m was fair for a player whose contract expires in a year.
And that is where the negotiations between Milan and Chelsea for Maignan ended for 2025.
