Mo Salah decision teased as top source makes bold claim
Mohamed Salah’s future remains more uncertain than ever following Arne Slot’s decision to bench the Liverpool icon for the weekend’s Premier League victory over West Ham United.
The Egypt international has struggled to catch fire as he did last term, while his overall contribution for the Reds has been criticised at times.
FootballTransfers revealed exclusively in August that this will very probably be Salah’s final year at Liverpool, and while the prevailing logic is that he will see out his career at the Saudi Pro League, there has been a suggestion that he could move to MLS.
Top US journalist Tom Bogert has addressed these claims and says that if Salah does move Stateside, a clear front runner for his signature has already emerged.
"If Mohamed Salah comes to Major League Soccer, I feel extraordinarily safe that it's going to be San Diego,” he explained on YouTube.
“San Diego has an Egyptian owner. It's deeper than that, but that is the starting point. I cannot imagine a scenario in which Chicago, Miami, or LAFC gets ahead, either in terms of, like, if you want to see some money come out.”
Saudi still ahead in Mo Salah transfer race
Bogert does not believe that MLS should yet be considered a favourite to beat Saudi to the Liverpool icon.
“First of all, there's going to be more on offer for Salah if he wants to go to the Middle East. We know that he had those offers and overtures before he renewed his contract with Liverpool.
“From what I've understood at least - and I'm not suggesting that this is definitely going to happen - I'm just saying, if Salah comes to MLS, I would put a lot of chips in the pile that it's going to be San Diego.
“Mo Salah to San Diego. What a nice, pleasant headline to pull out of this show that I did not see coming when it started. And it would be awesome to watch!”
Arne Slot on Salah situation
Liverpool are still bullish over Salah’s future, despite the star’s relegation to the bench at the weekend.
Speaking after that clash, Arne Slot was clear in his message: the Egyptian is still firmly in his plans.
“Mo has had an unbelievable career and will have a very good future at this club because he’s such a special player. But when you have four games in 10 days then you have to decide once in a while on a certain lineup,” the Dutchman said.
Salah, meanwhile, faces a battle to regain his untouchable status at Liverpool.
