Neymar to Inter Miami bombshell: Leo Messi gets Barcelona reunion update
Inter Miami are willing to sign Brazil international star Neymar and pair him up with former Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi, but the MLS side are in no rush to complete a deal.
Neymar is currently at Santos, where he has endured an injury-hit year as for the struggling Brazilian side as he attempts to win a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His contract runs out at the end of December, at which point nothing is certain.
Fabrizio Romano previously described him as “one to watch” in the January transfer window, but while there is expected to be interest in the player, Inter Miami do not want to sign him until after the World Cup, Sport reports.
David Beckham’s MLS franchise are instead prioritising the arrival of a centre-forward and a defender.
Sport claims: “The Florida franchise has ruled out signing Ney in January. Beyond the undeniable media impact it would have seeing him beside Messi and Luis Suarez together again, the club’s sporting management has preferred to prioritise other issues.”
Neymar’s American dream
The 34-year-old’s future seems to hinge on Santos’ fortunes. A four-match undefeated run has given the Sao Paulo club more than a fighting chance of avoiding relegation, but with two matches remaining and precious little room for error, Neymar’s side cannot afford a slip.
Should Santos avoid the drop, Sport reports that the attacker’s contract with the club will likely be extended six months to run up until the World Cup.
At this point, Neymar could depart to hook up with Messi at Inter Miami, becoming the latest in an all-star cast of former Barcelona players to work with the Argentine in Florida.
“MLS has always caught his attention… He loves the USA and would love to follow in the footsteps of Pele, who ended his career playing for New York Cosmos,” the Spanish source states.
It remains unclear if the great attacking trident of Messi, Suarez and Neymar – named ‘MSN’ – will be reunited at Inter Miami, with the Uruguay international out of contract at the end of December.
