The France international has just over 18 months remaining on his existing deal at Selhurst Park and talks over fresh terms have stalled as Oliver Glasner’s side are yet to match the 28-year-old’s wage demands.

That is according to GiveMeSport, who report that Crystal Palace are keen to tie Mateta down to an extended contract, however there is a sizable gap between their salary offer and the Frenchman’s request.

As a result, negotiations have barely progressed since they began last year and Mateta is now open to leaving on a Bosman deal when his contract expires at the end of the 2026-27 season.

It’s reported that he has ambitions of playing in Serie A and TEAMtalk claim that AC Milan are among the clubs keeping tabs on his situation at Selhurst Park.

Arsenal and Manchester United have also been heavily linked with a move for Mateta in recent weeks, with both clubs expected to dip into the centre forward market again in 2026 amid rumours that Gabriel Jesus and Joshua Zirkzee could be sold.

Mateta, who has scored eight goals in 20 appearances so far this season, is seen as a Premier League proven option and Arsenal are set to battle Man Utd for his signature next year, as per multiple reports.

Crystal Palace are eager to retain Mateta’s services, but they will be forced to decide whether to accept a sale next summer or allow him to depart on a free transfer when his deal expires in 2027.

Jean-Philippe Mateta to leave Crystal Palace?

Mateta has established himself as a France international this campaign and he has netted two goals in just three caps for Les Bleus as he looks to cement himself as a regular ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Following his first call-up in October, Mateta was asked whether he wants to join a ‘big club’ in the Premier League and his answer suggests that a move could be on the cards amid interest from both Arsenal and Man Utd.

“That is natural,” Mateta admitted. “Every ambitious player wants to make that step, especially when you arrive in the national team and around you there are only players who are playing in the Champions League, who win the biggest trophies.

“When you are surrounded by the best players in the world, naturally, you want to make that step.”
