One of Manchester United's summer targets has spoken out about his future and hinted that he could be attracted by a move to away despite turning down Premier League interest this summer, although his eyes could instead be on rivals Liverpool.

United are believed to have failed in an approach to sign Stuttgart's Angelo Stiller on deadline day after the German international turned down the chance to leave his club in the final hours of the transfer window, with a reported €40 million release clause in his contract proving to be tempting for a number of clubs.

Liverpool have also monitored Stiller in the past, while Real Madrid have considered the midfielder as a natural successor to Toni Kroos but the 24-year-old insisted he did not want to leave during a World Cup year despite seeing his international teammate Florian Wirtz make a ‘cool’ move.

"I'm not currently thinking about moving," Stiller told Sport Bild. "I've discussed it with my management that this is out of the question for me right now

"I'm a regular and leading player here. The most important thing for my development is that I get my minutes — especially in a World Cup year. I definitely didn't want to jeopardize the World Cup."

"Basically, I'm attracted to moving abroad at some point; I thought Florian Wirtz's decision to go to Liverpool was cool. One thing is clear to me. At the end of my career, I absolutely want to play in the USA, in the MLS. This plan, this goal, is 100 per cent."

Stiller to consider Stuttgart exit next summer

Stiller has impressed for Stuttgart as a deep-lying playmaker with an eye for a pass, leading to his debut for the German national team last year.

Bayern Munich have also closely tracked Stiller, who came through their academy, but the midfielder renewed his contract at Stuttgart in January until 2028.

Having won the DFB-Pokal as an integral part of Stuttgart’s team last season, Stiller was reluctant to gamble on a transfer abroad and potentially risk missing out on Germany’s squad for next summer’s World Cup.

However, Stiller appears to be open to a move abroad next year after seeing Wirtz move to Liverpool for a British transfer record fee, which was eventually eclipsed by the signing of Alexander Isak on deadline day.
