Liverpool reach SECOND Deadline Day deal: Centre-back move AGREED after Isak bomb
Liverpool are set for a busy Deadline Day, with the Anfield club striking a deal for a centre-back after finding an agreement to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle.
Arne Slot’s side are set to break the British record transfer fee for a second time this summer when they sign Isak from their Premier League rivals, but they are also hopeful of landing England international Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
The Reds’ prospects of doing this have been increased thanks to an agreement that could well see Joe Gomez sign for AC Milan.
Gomez, 28, might have spent much of last season playing as a centre-back for Liverpool, but now the Rossoneri want him to replace Alex Jimenez, who is primarily a right-sided defender.
The Serie A club are hopeful they can talk the Liverpool star around after agreeing a transfer fee with Liverpool for the defender.
Transfer expert Matteo Moretto reports: “Agreement close between Milan and Liverpool for Joseph Gomez for a €15m permanent transfer. Now the Rossoneri are working to finalise an economic agreement with the defender.”
Liverpool make another brutal transfer decision
Gomez, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €18.7m, featured just 17 times under Arne Slot last season as he struggled with hamstring problems. Although he has featured off the bench twice already this season, the imminent arrival of Guehi from Crystal Palace is set to push him down the pecking order.
Liverpool, meanwhile, could usefully make sales to offset their big-money spending, which could well top €500m by the time the transfer window shuts.
Slot has already taken the decision to move on numerous established players this summer, with Luis Diaz moving to Bayern Munich and Darwin Nunez joining Al-Hilal for a combined €120m.
Gomez is set to be the latest victim of the ambitious overhaul that Liverpool are undergoing.
