Chelsea transfer BOMBSHELL: Personal terms 'agreed' after swap deal offer
Chelsea agreed personal terms with Mohammed Kudus before his eventual summer move to Tottenham Hotspur, according to a bombshell report.
The Ghana international was heavily linked with almost every top Premier League club following his final season at West Ham United and Chelsea were among the teams eager to add him to their first-team squad.
In fact, the Blues wanted to bring him to Stamford Bridge during the June transfer window in order for Kudus to feature for Enzo Maresca’s side at the inaugural summer Club World Cup.
That is according to The Athletic, who claim that Chelsea had even agreed personal terms with Kudus.
The Blues reportedly offered West Ham a fee of €46.2 million in addition to including Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in the deal. However, this bid was swiftly rejected by the east London outfit as they were determined to sell Kudus for the maximum possible fee, rather than negotiating a swap deal.
As a result, Kudus eventually joined Tottenham for €63.8m, while Dewsbury-Hall was signed by Everton for a fee of €28.7m after just one season at Chelsea.
Chelsea miss out on Mohammed Kudus
After missing out on Kudus, Chelsea acted quickly to finalise a deal for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens, who joined the club for €56m on 5 July.
However, the sale of Noni Madueke to Arsenal and Jadon Sancho’s return to Manchester United, following an underwhelming loan stint at Stamford Bridge, prompted the Blues to dip back into the market.
After weeks of negotiations, they finally completed the signing of Alejandro Garnacho during the final few days of the summer transfer window and he will compete with Gittens for a starting berth on the left flank under Maresca.
Kudus, on the other hand, has enjoyed a successful start to life at Tottenham, starting all four of their competitive fixtures so far this season, registering two assists.
