Chelsea eye FREE AGENT deals: Enzo Maresca moves for €60m worth of talent
Chelsea have become known for their big spending in the transfer market in recent years, but BlueCo have a plan for next summer that will see two superstars arrive for nothing.
The transfer window may just have closed, but Chelsea have not stopped planning for the future.
The Blues announced the 2026 signing of Emanuel Emegha from Strasbourg on Friday and Enzo Maresca’s side are also targeting the arrival of two world-class free agents who would further their status as Premier League title contenders.
Chelsea are ready to challenge Liverpool to sign Marc Guehi while the West London side will also seek to sign Mike Maignan from AC Milan next summer, TBR Football reports. Both are out of contract with their respective clubs and will be free agents in June. Contract negotiations can formally begin in January, though.
The pair have a combined Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) approaching €60 million, highlighting the value that Chelsea believe they can get.
Are Maignan and Guehi realistic targets for Chelsea?
Interest in Maignan has been reported on a widespread basis for several weeks, with the France international even said to have agreed terms with the Club World Cup winners, according to certain sources.
Guehi, though, would appear to be a more difficult target to sign. Although the England star is likely to leave Crystal Palace, Liverpool led the way for him in the summer and came close to landing him. Arne Slot has admitted their interest has not gone.
Spanish media reports indicate that Palace could be open to selling the centre-back for €20 million in January, with Barcelona and Real Madrid also interested in the 25-year-old. Chelsea, though, appear to have targeted Guehi as a free agent.
The Blues’ spending is likely to be curtailed at some point due to high volumes of investment that have gone into the squad in recent transfer windows. Chelsea have picked their way through this problem by using various loopholes, but at some point BlueCo could run out of opportunities to exploit.
As such, targeting free agents such as Guehi and Maignan is a logical step, particularly as both are of the calibre to enhance Maresca’s squad.
