'Unacceptable!' - Chelsea signing involved in CIVIL WAR as fans lodge protest
Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior has criticised a section of the club’s fanbase for calling captain Emanuel Emegha a “BlueCo pawn” during their 1-0 victory over Le Havre on Sunday.
Emegha, 22, was given the captain’s armband by Rosenior over the summer, however a number of Strasbourg supporters have demanded that he steps down from the role following confirmation that he will join Chelsea in 2026.
The Dutchman, who has already scored three goals in four matches so far this season, has been one of Strasbourg’s standout players since his arrival from Sturm Graz in 2023, and Chelsea have decided to purchase him from their sister club next year.
This has led to a fiery response from Strasbourg fans, most of whom vehemently hate the influence that Chelsea have had over their club since BlueCo purchased the French side in June 2023.
In the first game since his move to Chelsea was confirmed, versus Le Havre on Sunday, Strasbourg fans took the opportunity to display a banner that read: “Emegha BlueCo pawn. After changing your shirt, give back your armband.”

What has been said?
Following the match, Rosenior told reporters: “Emanuel Emegha was devastated and so was I.
“I am very disappointed with what I saw. Seeing banners against one of the team's best players last season is unacceptable.
"My players deserve much more. They have an impeccable mindset and do not deserve this treatment. We are in a pivotal season in which we will play in a European competition, but it seems that a minority is not happy with these performances.
“It won't change anything at all because I remain very proud of my players, and Ema will remain captain as long as he is here. It is still necessary to emphasize that this does not concern everyone, but a minority.”
The banner aimed at Emegha comes after Strasbourg fans released an official statement calling for president Marc Keller to leave the club as he is now simply a “spokesperson tasked with defending BlueCo’s policies.”
Strasbourg are currently fifth in Ligue 1, having picked up nine points from their opening five matches, however the club appears to be in turmoil behind the scenes.
