REVEALED: Arsenal's €90m Rodrygo plan
Arsenal are hoping to make Rodrygo the new ‘spearhead’ of their team but Mikel Arteta could be forced to wait to sign the Real Madrid star this summer.
Rodrygo is believed to be Arsenal’s ideal target to strengthen in attack this summer, with Arteta believed to have already given his approval to splash the cash on the 24-year-old.
The Gunners are willing to make a large investment to sign Rodrygo, with Real Madrid likely to demand a fee in excess of €90 million for the winger, and the Premier League side have been in regular contact with the player’s entourage since the end of the season.
However, Rodrygo has yet to make a formal decision over his future and Spanish outlet AS report that any deal will be ‘cooked slowly, very slowly’, while the Brazilian considers his situation.
Rodrygo is said to have requested to cut off all communication until after the Club World Cup, at which point he will hold talks with new Real manager Xabi Alonso over his future.
The saga will likely not be resolved until August, although Real are open to Rodrygo’s departure, while the player wouldn’t object to his sale if he is able to choose his eventual destination.
Arsenal set to pursue other priorities until Rodrygo decision
Rodrygo is understood to be considering his future at Real after a disappointing campaign which has seen him question whether he will be considered alongside the club’s star players like Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior.
The situation led to Arsenal making their interest clear if Rodrygo is deemed to be expendable by Alonso, although nothing will be finalised until later in the summer.
In the meantime, Arsenal are focusing on sealing deals for Cristhian Mosquera as well and a striker such as Benjamin Sesko or Viktor Gyokeres, while Martin Zubimendi’s deal will soon be formally announced.
Arteta is also keen to add a playmaker such as Eberechi Eze, although much could depend on outgoings, with the futures of Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli still uncertain.
