Darwin Nunez signing demanded by elite manager as Isak pushes Liverpool striker out
Darwin Nunez looks increasingly likely to continue his career away from Liverpool as the Anfield club’s interest in Newcastle striker Alexander Isak mounts.
The Reds are reportedly ready to launch a Premier League record transfer bid to sign Sweden star Isak, and in order to fund that, the likes of Luis Diaz and Nunez find themselves being pushed towards the Anfield exit.
With Arne Slot’s side having already recruited Hugo Ekitike for €90 million to strengthen their attacking options, the prospect of Nunez getting game times looks slim. Last season, he struggled to win the faith of the Netherlands boss with a series of erratic performances that saw him increasingly given a bit-part role.
While there have been fears that Nunez might be difficult to sell, the Uruguay international is being courted by one of the best managers in the game.
According to Saudi source Al-Riyadhiah, Al-Hilal head coach Simone Inzaghi has personally instructed his side to sign Nunez.
Nunez to Saudi has far-reaching implications
This has further implications for Liverpool that increase their chances of signing Isak. Al-Hilal were the Saudi Pro League club that the Newcastle man was linked with a transfer to. Indeed, it is even claimed that they are willing to offer Isak a contract worth €575,000 per week.
The Nunez rumours suggest Al-Hilal may be ready to drop their interest in Isak, but it would be strange timing for them to sign a Liverpool player given the Premier League champions’ interest in the Magpies hitman.
The Saudi club shares owners with Newcastle. The prospect of them fuelling Liverpool’s transfer kitty to launch a bid for Isak, therefore, looks somewhat questionable.
Nunez does, however, appear the type of player well suited to a move to Saudi due to his lack of credible European suitors and high cost.
