How Liverpool would line up with Alexander Isak
Liverpool are desperate to sign Alexander Isak this summer after making initial contact with Newcastle over a potentially record-breaking transfer to finally get Arne Slot the striker he has been dreaming of.
Slot has already spent more than €200 million adding quality to his squad with the signings of Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong, as well as smashing the British transfer record to sign Florian Wirtz.
But a striker has always been near the top of Liverpool’s agenda this summer and Slot is hoping Isak can be the man to lead his line next season, although Newcastle’s own target in Hugo Ekitike is also being pursued by the Reds.
Should Liverpool end up with Isak, their team could be transformed and further build on their Premier League success and FootballTransfers takes a look at how a team with the Swedish superstar could look next season.
How Liverpool would line-up with Alexander Isak
Liverpool’s team could be set for wholesale changes even in goal, with Giorgi Mamardashvili joining the club after his transfer last year, having spent the campaign on loan at former club Valencia. Alisson is expected to remain Liverpool’s number one but Mamardashvili will certainly be pushing for his spot intensely.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid saw him quickly replaced by Frimpong at right-back with the €40m signing a like-for-like replacement to his predecessor on the flank.
Virgil van Dijk is a guaranteed starter at centre-back but his partner may still change by the end of the summer, with Ibrahima Konate’s future uncertain as he stalls on a new contract. Liverpool still want a left-sided centre-back irrespective of the Frenchman’s situation and, while Konate remains the first-choice, he could be sold if a new deal isn’t agreed.
Kerkez’s €47m signing from Bournemouth will see him slot in at left-back, relegating the long-standing Andy Robertson to the bench in a tough yet necessary move for Slot.
Liverpool will likely continue with their title-winning midfield of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Aliister and Dominik Szoboszlai despite the signing of Wirtz, who is expected to feature further forward for Slot.
Wirtz started as an attacking midfielder for Bayer Leverkusen but the €125m signing could be used at left-wing by Slot, with Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo being on the bench, although the former could also leave Anfield this summer.
With Mohamed Salah easily keeping hold of his right-wing spot, Isak would slot in up front as one of the most deadly front threes in the Premier League, displacing Darwin Nunez, who could be sold, and providing the focal point to take Slot’s side to the next level.
