Chelsea reopen talks to sign Ajax wonderkid Jorrel Hato
Chelsea are firmly back in the race for Ajax defender Jorrel Hato, according to reports.
The Blues are in the midst of yet another summer of lavish spending, and their wheeling and dealing is showing no signs of slowing down, despite the fact that they have already completed the majority of their incoming business.
Chelsea remain attentive to market opportunities, but any more signings will depend on outgoings. There is no shortage of players the West London club are planning to offload, so thanks to these expected funds, there may yet be several more new arrivals before the window slams shut.
Chelsea have opened talks with Xavi Simons and RB Leipzig over a potential deal for the Netherlands international, although there is an argument to be made that they don't actually need him.
But then again, when has that ever stopped Chelsea? In fact, Simons isn't the only Dutchman who could turn up at Stamford Bridge before the summer is over.
Chelsea reopen Hato talks
According to The Athletic and confirmed by Ben Jacobs, Chelsea have also reopened talks with Ajax wonderkid Jorrel Hato. The 19-year-old is a long-standing target, and there were already conversations earlier this summer.
Chelsea want to add another defender, and Hato fits the bill perfectly as he is young and versatile, being capable of playing both centrally and on the left.
With Mamadou Sarr heading back to Strasbourg, Caleb Wiley rejoining Watford and Renato Veiga in talks with Atletico Madrid, another defender, preferably a left-sided one, is desired by Enzo Maresca.
Despite being just 19, Hato already has a wealth of senior experience, playing regularly at Ajax - and at times captaining the side - since age 17. So far, there have been no formal talks with the Dutch giants, but Chelsea are speaking to Hato again to gather information on a potential deal.
